Ozma discovers two lost children in her Magic Picture and sends Jack Pumpkinhead and the Sawhorse to rescue them. They find the children imprisoned by the King of the Squirrels for stealing nuts. Jack frees them, but a falling limb smashes his pumpkin head. The Sawhorse carries Jack's headless body and the children, but they become lost again. Ozma sends the Wizard, riding the Cowardly Lion, to their rescue. The Wizard safely escorts them out of the forest, returns the children to their families, and then takes Jack to his pumpkin field to replace his head.
