Jackie Rapport

from Silver On the Sage

Jackie’s Philmont participant story begins with a bang - in 2013 on day 2 as a Ranch Hand at Clark’s Fork she suffered a serious injury on horseback.  After a rough, year-long recovery, she was most upset by the fact that she wasn’t able to complete the Ranch Hands experience.  She finally returned in 2019 on staff at PTC. Jackie celebrates PTC as being a place to experience so many different opportunities from backcountry hikes and COPE to crafts and evening program. Even better, on PTC staff you witness participants from age six to age eighty, excel and enjoy these adventures. Jackie lives by the philosophy that “Once you get too comfortable in a role or department, it’s time to seek out something new, and push yourself to grow.”  Jackie did just that in 2020, when she applied to work in the Philmont Conservation department.  Jackie feels privileged to have spent the height of covid at Miners Park with a group of 11 others, clearing forest. She went on to become trained as a Conservation Forestry Foreman, learning the extensive science, safety, and history that is involved in logging.Lastly, Jackie discusses her post-covid experience as the Summer 2021 PTC Program Director.  With heavy crew loads and few returning staff, it was type-2 fun at the time, but she reflects on how rewarding it was to watch her staff grow that season.  In her ninth consecutive season at the ranch, Jackie was the Winter Basecamp Manager, where she hired all basecamp departments.  Today Jackie is a  Park Ranger at the US Army Corps of Engineers, in Abiquiu, NM.  Jackie's father, Greg Rapport, runs a non-profit for children aging out of the foster care system: Age Out Angels.  Check it out!  Philmont Experience:2012 - Cavalcade participant2013 - Ranch Hands participantStaff:Summer 2019: Program Counselor at the PTCFall 2019: Autumn PTC StaffWinter 2020: Cons Forestry Work Crew Member (Season ended early because of COVID)Summer 2020: Originally hired to be an OATC Foreman but came on staff as a Cons Forestry Work Crew Member (One of 11 Forestry staff hired, we were based out of Miners Park it was incredible)Fall 2020: Conservation Forestry Foreman (Season ended early because of COVID, did some cool cutting in the Burn for forestry research)Winter 2021: Conservation Forestry Foreman Summer 2021: PTC Program DirectorAutumn 2021: Autumn Basecamp ManagerWinter 2022: Winter Basecamp ManagerNotable MentionsMike CrockettKeith NelsonBryan StokesBrad BenChase DormeyerWill CampbellPhillip FerrierMaddy HaukBrian SibertSlim Uribe GoertzSupport the show
