Jalen Welch Chooses Syracuse

Syracuse locks down a major defensive gem with Jalen Welch, a top safety recruit from Grayson, Georgia, who committed on June 14th — a critical win after other elite prospects went elsewhere. Welch, a Class of 2027 standout, picked Syracuse over Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Iowa State after being wowed by the program’s hands-on coaching, clear development path, and immediate playing opportunity. Coaches emphasized his fit in zone coverage, highlighted by defensive coordinator Vince Kehres and standout cornerback Chris Peal, while Fran Brown’s intense, player-focused workouts sealed the deal. Welch felt like he’d be part of a family with a clear vision — and now he’s shutting down his recruitment, giving Syracuse a huge boost as they aim to build a dominant future defense.
