His essays and reviews have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Boston Review, Mother Jones, and Salon. Mr. James attended the Iowa Writers' Workshop and has taught fiction writing at the University of Iowa, the University of Michigan, Miami University, Grinnell College, and the University of Texas.
