Janelle Daku- Single Mom, Vaginal Birth in Hospital with Failed Epidural, Postpartum Depression and Anxiety, Introduction to Inner Shift Momma

In this episode, I speak with Janelle Daku, a postpartum and pediatric occupational therapist from Saskatoon, SK.  Janelle's pregnancy was a surprise and the way she found out she was pregnant is one of the most interesting ways I've heard!  Living in San Diego, California at the time of becoming pregnant, Janelle encountered some different challenges with making plans for the arrival of her baby, a daughter, Novalee. Her pregnancy itself went quite smoothly and after moving back to Canada near the end of it, labour started naturally while at home.  Labour was quite quick and though Janelle made it to the hospital in time to have an epidural, it ultimately didn't work for her and she delivered her baby beautifully without pain management.  Unfortunately, the most challenging part was not behind her as she struggled with both postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety for a long time after birth.  Janelle describes her struggles and what led her to create Inner Shift Momma and dedicate herself to providing education and support to women so they can thrive postpartum and not have to experience what she went through.  Later in the episode, she goes into more detail about the shift that happens when a woman becomes a mother and the importance of having tools and strategies to manage this huge transformation. Support the show
