Janelle Monáe joined TMH and spoke about her new single “Lipstick Lover” and the video that has caught everyone’s attention. Monáe said that she wanted the video to show history that we had a good time because the images of African Americans for so long have been negative. Janelle Monáe also spoke about the sound of her new album is to sound like you are on vacation. They want to encompass the entire diaspora of black music from the islands and to Africa. Janelle Monáe talked about the backlash she received when she wore a tuxedo. They also discussed the backlash they got from initially saying that she wanted to show a different way to be sexy and now they have their breasts out. The “Lipstick Lover” singer talked about the freedom of being non-binary and showing what they want to show.
