Janet Bain plus Rose Fortune
from Time Warp Hosted by Paul Vorvis and Kate Butler | Canoe FM
This week, Kate talks about Janet Bain - a governess and teacher in the early 1900's Haliburton County plus Paul talks about Rose Fortune of mid-1800's Anapolis Royal. Both of these women stand out in the historical record through being unconventional. Rose in particular because she was a woman and black, yet managed to create a successful business at a time when her colour and sex made it highly unlikely. And she's arguably the first female police officer in North America. Kate Butler is the Director of the Haliburton Highlands Museum. Paul Vorvis is the host of the Your Haliburton Morning Show 7 - 9 a.m. Fridays on Canoe FM 100.9 and streaming on your devices. Haliburton County is in cottage country about 2 1/2 hours north of Toronto. You can contact us at [email protected]
