Kazuo Ueda has been appointed as the new governor of the Bank of Japan (BOJ), taking over from Haruhiko Kuroda. Ueda, a former BOJ official who served from 2008 to 2015, will be tasked with unwinding roughly 23 years of quantitative easing and reducing Japan’s $5tn balance sheet.
