Jay Olson Built It All, Then Learned When to Come Home
from The Smartest Person in the Room
From the outside, Jay looked like he had it figured out: a successful Phoenix salon, 90k Instagram followers, a national career teaching other artists from the stage, a part-owner stake in a color line acquired by L’Oréal, and a full life he didn't always have full access to.. But a year ago, he almost took a lowball offer and sold the salon. In this conversation, Jay gets real about what pushed him to that point, and the room he walked into that convinced him not to walk away from the thing he built. He talks about what changed when industry legends gave him everything they knew, the pressure that comes with being “the guy” in your industry, and why he now believes the fastest way to grow is to help the people around you win. He also talks about the part of ambition people rarely say out loud: how travel, attention, and opportunity can quietly pull you away from your family …and the indicator lights that tell you it’s time to come home.
