Jay Wright's Legacy Honored Again | Hofstra Pride Basketball News

Jay Wright, the transformative coach who rebuilt Hofstra’s basketball program into a national contender before leading Villanova to two national titles, is set to be inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2026 — adding to his already legendary status after being honored in the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 2021. During his seven seasons at Hofstra (1994–2001), Wright amassed 122 wins, led the Pride to their first NIT appearance in 1999, captured the America East title and NCAA Tournament berth in 2000, and returned to the NCAA Tournament the next year. He mentored future head coach Speedy Claxton and built a winning culture that elevated Hofstra’s national profile — proving his impact extends far beyond Villanova.
