Black History Month is a great time to reflect on the achievements of Black dads. We tend to think of politicians (President Barack Obama), celebrities (John Legend), athletes (Dwyane Wade), and authors (Dr. Ibram X. Kendi) who exemplify the importance of fatherhood in their lives. But how about those everyday Black dads that show up? The ones that don’t necessarily get the spotlight (like the dad in the heartwarming short film, Hair Love, learning to do his daughter’s Black hair for the first time)? He’s building a community of Black dads dedicated to supporting each other in the daily challenges of fatherhood. As the founder of Journacy, a brand intentionally created for Black fathers, Jeff is elevating what it means to be a parent in today’s world and encouraging Black dads to enjoy the journey, just like he’s doing, every step of the way. It’s a community being built for Black dads who have decided that fatherhood is more than an obligation. As a self-proclaimed “Crib to College” father of five, Jeff has spent the last decade speaking to and super-serving Black men and Fathers. From creating, executive producing, and co-hosting BET’s Man Cave, to curating the behavioral health platform MEN THRIVE, to a three-year stent hosting Manhood Legacy Prayer ( a daily call with nearly 700 men) he lives to support Black dads. He has been a father for 21 years himself. Now 47, he brings elevated wisdom and history to leading the Journacy brand and community. Jeff is one of those remarkable individuals who make you feel good after speaking to him. His contagious enthusiasm for his purpose is evident in his everyday life.
