Jehovah — Jehovah Tsidkenu: The Lord Our Righteousness

from LifeWell Messages

People change doctors when they dislike the diagnosis, and they change churches when they dislike the truth. Jeremiah 23 confronts shepherds who scattered God's flock, then promises a righteous Branch from David called Jehovah-Tsidkenu , the Lord our righteousness. The Hebrew root carries the idea of a straight standard. A civilization cannot function without one, yet people want the standard to be their own: stoplights that are always green, speed limits that never apply to them. God, not the individual, sets the measure, and Scripture is the measuring line. Sin is defined by its archery origin, missing the mark God intends. The message holds two truths together: God demands righteousness and judges those who turn from it, and He is also Savior, providing through Christ the forgiveness for everyone who has fallen short, while still calling the forgiven to pursue holiness.
