Jenna: Two Births, NHS Hospital Forceps Birth, Denied Gas and Air, Ectopic Pregnancy, Birth Trauma and Healing NHS Home Birth

from British Birthing Stories

Jenna is a mum of two boys, Bertie and Laurie, from Kent. She shares two very different NHS experiences: a traumatic first hospital birth that ended in a forceps delivery, and a healing second birth at home. Jenna's first labour lasted 42 hours and left her with birth trauma she didn't fully understand until much later. Second time around, a home birth midwife's calm, hands off support during pushing became the moment everything changed. Jenna told the midwives afterwards that they had helped heal some of her birth trauma, simply by letting her give birth the way she had always wanted. In this episode we talk about: An ectopic pregnancy and the emotional toll it left behind A traumatic first birth involving forceps, being denied gas and air, and an NHS trust later rated among the worst for maternity care Choosing and preparing for a home birth after a difficult first birth Postnatal depression after her first birth, and how different she felt after her second A healing, empowering home birth and learning to trust her body This episode is for anyone who has had a difficult first birth and is wondering whether a home birth could help them heal.
