Jeremy Rosen (1949-60)

from The Road from Carmel · host Jill Kenton and Doron Junger

Joining Jill and Doron on the very first episode of the podcast, to tell us his story, is none other than Rabbi Jeremy Rosen, who now lives in NYC and - in his own words - is "a Rabbi and a teacher".  The son of Carmel's founder, the late Rabbi Kopul Rosen, Jeremy (known to many of us only ever as 'Rabbi Rosen') was a pupil at Carmel from 1949 to 1960, and the school's third headmaster from 1971 to 1984. Hear Jeremy tell us (in his unmistakable voice and inimitable manner) his unique story of being a pupil at Carmel while the son of its founder, eventually following in his father's footsteps as headmaster.  He will also explain his association with one ''Rookie" Rosen, and reveal the identity of the Green Lady. Incidentally, Jeremy in 2012 authored a memoir and comprehensive history of Carmel College, available on Amazon (here's Doron's review of it), and in 2019 officiated the wedding of Doron and his wife Ayelet in Miami (he did an excellent job).   Thank you, Jeremy, for turning us again to Carmel days!   Personal mentions in this episode: Dr. Kopul Rosen (Founder) Bella Rosen (Co-founder) Dr. David Stamler (Headmaster) Dr. Helmut Schmidt (History) Vera Zippel   Dedication: we are dedicating this inaugural episode of the podcast to the memory of Debbie Shahar Troen Mathias, a former pupil at Carmel, who along with her husband was brutally murdered by Hamas during its attack on Israel on the Black Sabbath of October 7, 2023.  They are survived by their son.  May Debbie's memory be for a blessing.
