KEY TAKEAWAYS I grew up in a lower-income household; my parents didn’t have much money. When I was 8 years old, my parents got divorced, we lost our house, the car got repossessed, and both my parents became homeless. I didn’t have many examples of people succeeding with money or as entrepreneurs. Sometimes, there’s an advantage to growing up without money. It instilled in me a work ethic, and as an entrepreneur, I’m much more comfortable with risk because I’ve come from a place where I had nothing and am not afraid to go back there if I need to. As a culture, we believe that if we go to school to get the grades, college to get the degree, get the job, then we save up for retirement, try to pay off the house and build up a nest-egg, then at 60-65 years old, we can finally enjoy what we’ve put together. My Mom was my first client, and we did all that. At 60, she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and she passed away 6 months later. As a son, it was a shocker, but as a financial professional, I saw the plan unravel, and I didn’t want to have that client experience again or experience personally. I want to enjoy life now. As CEO, my day-to-day is mostly about observing; I shadow my staff members and attend their calls and meetings. I spend several hours a day reading and studying business and administration, and how to be a better business executive. BEST MOMENTS ‘Wealth DynamX helps families, individuals, and entrepreneurs in North America achieve greater financial education, stability, and freedom in the future.’ ‘I became a bodybuilder and thought I’d do that forever, but I started to get into the financial industry at 18, got all my licences, and the rest has been a natural progression of evolving and growing and putting my vision into reality over the last 11 years.’ ‘School is necessary, we need to learn the basics, but I think it does a really poor job on two things, and an area where we can simply improve is telling people the purpose of school. It’s a very long period of our lives where we don’t really know why we’re there.’ ABOUT THE GUEST Jerry Fetta is a beacon in the world of finance, with a mission to simplify wealth management and make it relatable to everyone. What this episode covers
We don’t talk enough about money trauma. And we definitely don’t talk enough about what financial freedom is actually for. In this episode of Scouting for Growth, Sabine VanderLinden sits down with Jerry Fetta, Founder and CEO of Wealth DynamX, to unpack a radically human perspective on wealth, risk, and resilience—and why the traditional financial playbook no longer works for today’s entrepreneurs and leaders. Jerry’s story doesn’t start with privilege. It starts with loss. Growing up in a low-income household, experiencing his parents’ divorce, homelessness, and financial instability at a young age, Jerry had no blueprint for success—financial or otherwise. What he did develop was grit, work ethic, and an unusual comfort with risk. When you’ve had nothing, he explains, fear loses much of its power. That lived experience profoundly shaped his philosophy on money. Jerry challenges one of society’s most deeply embedded assumptions: that life enjoyment is something you earn after decades of sacrifice. Study. Work. Save. Retire. Then live. The flaw in that model became painfully clear when Jerry’s own mother—his first client—followed the plan perfectly, only to be diagnosed with terminal cancer at 60 and pass away six months later. The financial plan worked. Life didn’t wait. That moment reframed everything. Today, through Wealth DynamX, Jerry helps families, individuals, and entrepreneurs build financial strategies that balance future security with present living. His mission isn’t just about accumulation—it’s about education, agency, and choice. Money should reduce anxiety, not create it. And wealth should enable life, not postpone it. As a leader, Jerry brings the same intentionality to how he runs his business. He spends much of his time observing, mentoring, and learning—shadowing his team, staying close to client conversations, and continuously studying what it means to be a better executive. Leadership, he believes, is less about control and more about awareness. The episode also touches on the gaps in traditional education. We’re taught how to pass exams, Jerry argues—but rarely why we’re doing it in the first place, or how money actually works in the real world. Financial literacy remains one of the most consequential—and under-addressed—skills in modern society. For founders, operators, and professionals navigating uncertainty, this conversation offers: A reframing of risk and resilience A healthier, more human definition of wealth A reminder that time is the only non-renewable asset 🎧 This episode is for anyone building a business, a career, or a life—and questioning whether the old rules still make sense. Because financial freedom isn’t about someday. It’s about living well—now and later.
