What do you crave? What can you simply not do without? That ache in the pit of your soul is what the fourth beatitude is all about. You see, once you have learned and lived the first three beatitudes, you begin to crave God’s ways in all your life – in both your relationship with Him and your relationships with others. Nothing else will do. Nothing else will satisfy. Discover the satisfaction for our deepest hunger.1. What associations have you had with the word “righteous”? Have they been positive or negative? Have you ever heard a pastor or Christian abuse or misuse the word? What effect did that have on you? How might it have affected others?2. As Pastor Keith explained in this message, there is not just one meaning for the word righteousness. It actually has a dual meaning. This is why it is sometimes translated as justice instead of righteous because the emphasis is more on the horizontal aspect of righteousness. In a nutshell, righteousness is a right relationship with God and others.  In this way, the word righteousness reflects the dual command to love God and love our neighbor. Have you ever been in a church that only emphasized one aspect of righteousness? What was that like? How did that belief influence their perception of who they were and what they were supposed to be doing in the world?3. The most powerful indicator of new life – the transforming work of Jesus Christ – is a fundamental change in our desires. Lifelong habits might be stubborn and slow to change but the desire to please God – to know Him and His ways – manifests itself almost immediately. Even in this beatitude, the blessing is not on obtaining righteousness. It’s in the hunger and thirst for that to be true in our life.
