Jesus Calmed His Disciples

As we focus our attention on some of Jesus' last interactions with His disciples, Jesus reassured His disciples in their moments of apprehension and fear that Jesus claimed He was leaving. We spend our time in this episode in John 16 looking specifically at Jesus' teaching about the Holy Spirit. Followers of Jesus need to understand how they are related to the Holy Spirit and His work today. This episode helps us to examine who Jesus said the person of God the Holy Spirit is and how believers in Christ have access to the Holy Spirit. The overarching emphasis for this message is to encourage believers in Christ that God has created an open line of communication with them because of Jesus' sacrifice of Himself on the cross. Because Jesus' died for sin, this gives believers in Christ access to direct communication with God the Father when believers approach the Father in Jesus' name. This episode helps Christians to understand the concept and mystery of the Christian viewpoint on the Holy Trinity of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Trinity is how God communicates within the Godhead. Understanding that God communicates with Himself (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - One God existing in Three Persons) helps Christians to learn how to communicate with God Himself and how God communicates with them. In John 14-17, the apostle John records a detailed understanding of how God will communicate His truth to the disciples when Jesus dies and then ascends to heaven to be with God the Father. Encouragement in this episode is focused on seeking a new conversation with God so that Christian believers and followers of Christ can begin to understand God's will for their lives.
