Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

It shows Jesus as the Supplier of human need and recalls God feeding Israel with manna in the wilderness, setting the stage for his testimony that he is the bread of life (v.35). Jesus demonstrated to them the giving character of God – the same character God desires to build within us. Proverbs 11:24 says, “There is one who scatters, yet increases more; and there is one who withholds more than is right, but it leads to poverty.” The bread was multiplied as it was “scattered”.
