Jesus - His Identity, His Mission (John 5: 16 -47)

We are given one of the most comprehensive overviews of the identity and mission of Jesus. The people of Israel at this time, were looking to first persecute and then even find ways to kill Jesus because of the insult He brought in healing on the Sabbath and making Himself equal with God the Father. For us, this is so important to meditate on, pray through, and really explain and teach one another because when we understand His identity and His mission, we have more grounds to have great faith in the authority of Jesus; that we do not stand alone or are propped up by blind faith but that God the Father, His miracles, John the Baptist, the law of Moses, the prophets and the psalms, including Moses Himself, all testify that Jesus is the Son of God and the One who would come to be the Messiah, the Christ. May we enjoy today and strengthen ourselves in the faith, while we learn what John the Disciple has to teach us from John 5 – the most comprehensive overview of Jesus’ identity and His mission to save the world.
