Jesus Knows You - NL
from Pastor Jonathan’s Sermons · host jonathan althoff
Connect with me here in text… tell me where you are listening. There’s a moment most of us know too well: you hear yourself say something sharp, you overreact, you shut down, and later you wonder, Why did I do that? We start with Jesus’ words from John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice,” and ask a hard question: what happens when we’re not close enough to recognize the Shepherd, and not honest enough to recognize ourselves? We talk about the “know yourself” advice our culture loves, then push deeper into why self-knowledge gets distorted by pain. Over time, we learn to present the version of us that wins approval and avoids criticism. We call it personality, strength, or maturity, but it can become a mask. In church, that can turn into what we call the “Jesus mask” where we look faithful while hiding fear, doubt, shame, and old wounds. The result is a life where we’re “selectively known” by others and eventually hard to fully know even to ourselves. From there we trace how the inner wall gets built brick by brick: rejection, betrayal, failure, abandonment, and sometimes severe trauma that teaches us being seen is not safe. We name the coping that follows, the shame that grows around it, and the exhausting cycle of hiding. Then we sit with the words that feel both threatening and relieving: Jesus says, “I know you.” He sees behind the wall, understands why every brick is there, and knows the difference between what happened to you and who you are. If you’ve been searching for a safe place to be fully known without performing, this is for you. Listen, share it with someone who needs tenderness, and if it helps, subscribe and leave a review so more people can find this kind of hope. Support the show www.Turning180.com
