On this Good Friday.It is still dark.Gethsemane is behind him —the garden, the soldiers, the kiss,the drawn sword, the ear restored,the disciples scattered into the dark.They are marching him toward the city.There will be no sleep tonight.Not for him.Not for the men holding him.Not for the disciples who have slipped into the shadows.Six hearings before six authorities.A flogging.A crown of thorns pressed into his skull.A road.A cross.A borrowed tomb sealed before sundown.All of it — in a single day.This is the day.Before Annas. Before Caiaphas.Before the Sanhedrin. Before Pilate. Before Herod.Before Pilate again.And before Herod — the king who had wanted to see him for a long time,who sat across from the Son of God demanding a spectacle —Jesus did not answer him.Not a word.The entertainment-seeking king got silence.Power. Perfectly withheld.Before Pilate:"Don't you know I have the authority to crucify you?""You would have no authority over me at all —if it hadn't been given you from above."Then Pilate walked him out.Wearing a crown of thorns. A purple robe.And said five words that may be the most unintentional theological statementin all of human history:"Here is the man."And in the middle of his own trial —the mocking, the blows —Luke records one detail that stops everything:Then the Lord turned and looked at Peter.In the middle of everything being done to him —he turned.He found Peter in the courtyard.He looked at him.Not with accusation.Not with I told you so.The text just says: he looked at him.He was thinking of Peter.While they were hitting him —he was thinking of Peter.Then Golgotha.Nine in the morning.Three hours of darkness.Seven words from the cross.The curtain torn from top to bottom.A borrowed tomb.Sealed before sundown.This episode ends with a one-time closing —a thought experiment called GOD.
