Every person will face a bitter cup in life. The question isn't whether trials will come, but whether believers will remain faithful when they do. If she was innocent, the bitterness would pass, and she would bear fruit with her husband. This ancient ritual becomes a powerful picture of our faith being tested through trials and afflictions. Will we remain faithful to our heavenly Husband, or will we turn to the world in spiritual adultery? Jesus referred to His suffering at the cross as a cup, praying in Gethsemane that, if possible, it might pass from Him. He drank that ultimate bitter cup for us as our substitute. Now we drink cups of suffering by following His example—not as punishment, but as tests that refine our faith and deepen our loyalty to Him.
