Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit. John 14:14-31 Lesson 19 Big Idea/ Aim: The Holy Spirit transforms believers from the inside out How do you understand the role of the Holy Spirit? Who is He and how does He work in our lives as believers? Jesus tells us that He will not leave us as orphans, that He will send the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, and the Spirit of Jesus. Divisions:  I. Jesus promised Life Transforming Knowledge (John 14:15-21)  II. Jesus explained Life Transforming Loving Obedience (John 14:22-26) III. Jesus promises Life Transforming Peace (John 14:27-31) Principles: The indwelling Holy Spirit enables believers to know and love God. The indwelling Holy Spirit empowers believers to obey God. The indwelling Holy Spirit fills believers with overcoming peace and praise. Applications: 1. What is your relationship with the Holy Spirit? Does He live within you? What do you ask of Him in prayer? 2. How has the Holy Spirit illuminated Scripture or revealed truth about God to you? (“He will lead you into all truth, bring to remembrance everything I have taught you…”) 3. For what current struggle are you asking for Holy Spirit’s peace? For what do you ask for wisdom, insight, power to overcome, strength to constantly mobilize, and see things as God sees and not framed by your social media, news outlets, or even your pastor?
