Jesus the Redeemer (Luke 22:31-34, 54-62)

It’s hard to imagine how Peter must have felt. The one who he left everything to follow, the one who rescued his life, the one who he knew as a Master and friend, the one who he committed to serve forever….. this one he has just denied. Once. Twice. Three times. “I don’t know him.” Open, blatant denial. Just as Jesus prophesied. He can’t believe it. How could he have done this? How could he have turned his back on this One who he loved? Imagine where this left him: Devastation. Tears. Brokenness. Shame. Despair. Sick with himself and his sin. We’ve all found ourselves in a similar position. Each one of us will fail the Lord and then hear the “rooster crowing.” We may think we are finished and that our future has been destroyed but that is not Jesus’ message to us. He will restore us when we turn back toward him. Jesus is the confidence for our faith, not ourselves.
