Jesus the Suffering Servant (Luke 22:39-46)

We continue in our series "Cradle, Cross, Crown" and our study of the gospel of Luke. Today, we focus our attention on Jesus as he prays in the Garden of Gethsemane from the perspective of His Father who was with Him in that sacred place.Jesus is a wonderful Savior for all who trust Him. He gave his life because it was the only way for you and me to be saved. For us to receive eternal life, Jesus had to give himself to suffer and die for our sins. While he begins to experience the pain and agony of bearing the penalty our sin, Jesus humbles himself to obey God and love us by accepting the path toward the cross. On the same night, both Judas and Peter seem to miss the mission embraced by Jesus, resulting in pretending and fighting their way to “success.” Jesus demonstrates to them (and us) that God’s plan for salvation and the spread of the gospel comes in the form of submission, sacrifice, and suffering.
