Jesus - The Vine
from Woodbury Community Church Sermons · host Brian Schulenburg
Jesus Christ called Himself the Vine and his followers the branches. Just like the branches of grape vine cannot survive without the vine, so we as believers cannot spiritually thrive apart from Christ and our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Jesus told his followers that to follow Him meant that they would be hated by the world. They would need each other like never before. Jesus was sending the Holy Spirit to empower the disciples to accomplish great things for Christ. He would show them ultimate love by laying down His life for them. He wanted them to show great love to each other. Big Idea:True disciples are connected to the Vine, bear much fruit, are characterized by their love for each other, and will face persecution. (John 15:1-27; Isaiah 5:7; Isaiah 5:1-2; Galatians 5:22-23; John 13:34-35; 1 Timothy 3:12; Philippians 1:29; 1 Thessalonians 3:3-4; 1 Peter 4:12-13;)
