Jets-Titans Week 1 Preview: Keys to Opening Day in Nashville

The New York Jets kick off the 2026 regular season on the road against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium, and there is plenty to unpack ahead of Sunday’s 1 PM kickoff.1. Advantage Jets: Cedric Gray Ruled OutThe Titans catch a major break defensively with their health upfront, but they will be missing linebacker Cedric Gray in the middle due to a concussion. Without Gray anchoring the second level, Tennessee’s linebacker rotation is stretched thin right out of the gate.2. The Exploitation Plan: Attack via Breece Hall and Mason TaylorWith Tennessee missing key second-level depth, the Jets have a glaring opportunity to scheme up high-percentage, quick-timing throws. Expect offensive coordinator Frank Reich to target linebackers in space by getting dynamic playmaker Breece Hall and tight end Mason Taylor matched up on quick routes early and often to neutralize the pass rush and pick up chunk yardage.3. The Big Obstacle: Containing Jeffery SimmonsThe biggest headache for the Jets’ offensive line will be managing All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. Fresh off a dominant campaign where he racked up 11 sacks and an elite 88.3 PFF grade, Simmons can single-handedly wreck a game plan if he isn’t neutralized by quick snaps, slide protections, and a physical ground game.Check out the full 2-minute breakdown video for all the key matchups, and stay tuned to Jets Underground for complete post-game analysis!
