退休前是平凡上班族的葉金福說，退休後計畫趕不上變化，想玩要有健康的身體才可以玩，想學習也要有環境及時間，其中最重要是心情，沒有好的心情走不出去，不想學習也一樣走不出去！ 葉金福說，看到周遭許多長輩生活過得不好，尤其病痛開始纏身之後，親人手足間經常因利益及照顧問題感情生變，連帶原本最需要照顧的長輩也跟著受苦。 葉金福認為照顧長輩除了同輩之間要溝通，長輩也需要再教育，充份溝通才能讓照顧更順暢。葉金福成立了家庭照顧基金，這是一套是以受照顧的長輩為中心，所規劃的一套家庭照顧制度，實施四年九個月的照顧，成效如何呢
