Joan's Picks: The List and Far North

The List by Yomi Adegoke. Ola is a high profile journalist at a feminist magazine, who’s about to marry the love of her life. Young, beautiful and successful, she and her fiancé Michael seem to have it all. That is, until one morning they both wake up to the same message. A crowdsourced collection of names has morphed into an anonymous account posting Me Too type allegations on social media, and usually Ola would be all over it, retweeting it and forwarding to everyone she knows - but Michael’s name is on the list.  Far North by David White and Angus Gillies. In 2016, an unlikely mix of men got together and planned to import 500kg of meth into the Far North of New Zealand from a ship anchored offshore. This is the story of how they went about it and if you didn’t know it was true you’d think it was fiction. The mistakes they made were epic, and the police work wasn’t stellar either so the combination of the two is just hilarious. It’s been made into a TV series which starts on TV3 on Monday night, starring Robyn Malcolm and Temuera Morrison. I’ve see the first episode and it’s wonderful TV.
