La rumeur bruissait depuis plusieurs semaines et Joe Biden l'a confirmée. Le mardi 25 avril, dans une vidéo de trois minutes postée sur YouTube, le président des États-Unis a présenté sa candidature pour un second mandat. Une vidéo dans laquelle il se pose en défenseur de la démocratie, des libertés et des valeurs de l'Amérique, contre les «extrémistes MAGA» [Make America Great Again, ndlr] du camp républicain, fervents supporters de Donald Trump.S'il doit d'abord confirmer son statut durant la primaire,  Donald Trump s'avance comme le favori à l'investiture des Républicains. Et c'est alors le match de l'élection 2020 qui risque de se rejouer en 2024. Le problème majeur, c'est l'âge de Joe Biden. Il a eu 80 ans en novembre 2022 et s'il est réélu, il quitterait la Maison-Blanche en 2028 à l'âge de 86 ans.
