John Block - Building Decks and Helping to Create Family Memories - Episode 223

Some people know what they want to do for a living even when they are little kids.  Others hunt for years to find out what they want to do and still seem to be on the hunt late in life.  And then there are those that are don't find their profession, but rather, their profession finds them.  John Block is that guy.  Growing up with a natural desire to build things John loved being in the woods building tree houses as a kid.  As he grew up he thought it would be important to go to college and learn his trade even more thoroughly.  Construction education and carpentry skills filled his hours of education.  After graduating from college he knew it was time for a real job.  But, to pass time and make a little spending money, John built a few decks for people in the neighborhood.   Before he knew it, the request for him to build decks began to spread by word of mouth and John never looked back. When asked why he chose to be a deck builder, he says, " I didn't, it chose me."  John believes that God gifted him with his carpentry skills and always opened doors for the next opportunity.  John just stayed obedient and followed his calling. Outside of the career that chose him, John also saw God at work in his life.  God brought he and his wife together and blessed them with two kids.  John never looked back on the wife God chose for him or the kids God blessed him with.  He always knew they were exactly the people God intended to be in his life. Are you looking for this kind of certainty in your life?  John would say that it might be best to stop trying to force your way through life and allow God to move through your life.
