John McKay: Mainland Poultry CEO on the industry's preparations for the new strain of bird flu

from The Mike Hosking Breakfast · host Newstalk ZB

The poultry industry believes it's as prepared as it can be for bird flu.  Biosecurity Minister Andrew Hoggard has announced legislation requiring anyone with more than 100 birds to have a bird flu prevention and response plan.  Mainland Poultry chief executive John McKay told Mike Hosking the industry and farmers have been working closely with MPI, and learnt from countries that have already dealt with the virus.  He says you can have the best strategies in the world and still get hit by disease, so having these plans is the best way forward for farmers.   LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
