Jolly Challenges GOP on Key Issues | Miami News

Florida’s governor race is heating up as David Jolly, the Democratic-turned-independent candidate, hits the campaign trail just days after Republican rival Byron Donalds skipped the state for a GOP convention. Jolly, once a GOP congressman, blasts three decades of Republican rule for failing to fix core issues like healthcare, education, and insurance—and vows to reopen the Hope Florida scandal investigation. He proudly unveils his Black leadership team, betting big on support from that key demographic, even as Donalds—potentially Florida’s first Black governor—claims race isn’t central to his campaign. Both men agree affordability and economic growth are top priorities, but their policy paths diverge sharply, with Jolly calling out “Democrat socialism” while Donalds warns against it.
