Jon Hawk: Memphis Rox Rock Climbing Gym and Community Center - Co-Movement Gym Podcast S2E51

from Co-Movement Gym Podcast · host Josh Lewis, Andy Cieply, and Dr. Ricky McDonough

The following is a conversation with Jon Hawk. Jon is the director of gym operations at Memphis Rox a nonprofit rock climbing gym and community center in South Memphis Tennessee.  Founded in 2018, their ethos is rooted in creating a culture of encouragement and empowerment both on and off the wall and they accomplish that by never turning anyone away, regardless of an inability to pay. They believe It’s not only about money, but manpower: a willingness to give what one can, be it a helping hand or simply an encouraging word. Their members who can pay-it-forward, do so, to support access for those who can’t. Five volunteer hours per month equates to a four-week membership. Memphis Rox is the first nonprofit climbing gym of its size, standing at 32,000 sq ft with yoga and meditation space, a fitness area and system board. The campus also houses Juice Almighty, an in-house café, the Soulsville Community Closet and an Educational Food Garden.  In 2020 the documentary Black Ice premiered at the adventure film festival Reel Rock 15. This is how I discovered Memphis Rox. This gym is a living example of hope and love. It’s a reminder of the power of community and that when humans work together, amazing progress can be made. Companies supporting their mission include the North Face, Yeti, The Alex Honnold Foundation, Black diamond and many others.  Links: https://www.memphisrox.org/ Instagram: Memphisroxclimbing Sponsors:NativePath:Follow the link below to see all of NativePath's Pure Grass-Fed, Organic, Clean Supplements and use the CoMo15 code at checkout for 15% off!https://www.nativepath.com/Lombardi Chiropractic:https://www.lombardichiropractic.com/Mention the Co-Movement Gym Podcast when scheduling your initial appointment for 50% off Initial Consultation and X-Rays!Redmond:redmond.lifeOur team at Co-Movement Gym has used Redmond’s Real Sea Salt, Seasonings, Re-Lyte Electrolyte drink and other products for years!
