Jonah 1 & 2
from Riverside Reading Plan Hosted by Riverside Church
Jonah's three-day experience in the great fish explicitly prefigures Christ's death and resurrection, while his presence on the ship causing a storm that threatens others parallels how Christ would bear the storm of divine wrath to save others. The pagan sailors' faith contrasts with the prophet's disobedience, anticipating how Gentiles would often respond to the gospel more readily than God's chosen people.
