Welcome welcome welcome to armchair expert. I'm Dan Shepherd. I'm joined by Mrs. Mouse.
Hello. Hello We got to say something at the front of this episode We do I do want to also maybe put a trigger warning because we talked about trans rights Yeah in this episode and it could be triggering so you know we want to warn we end up I would say inadvertently we end up hashing out one of the debates maybe two of the debates that are currently being had right now in the country It's very sensitive topic. It's really understandably as it should be a lot of people's rights are on the line Yes, in many many states. Yeah, so it's really important to have these types of conversations Conversations are happening a ton and that they're not happening in public as well, right Jonathan Van Ness Yes, who I want to say I fucking love I adore Jonathan and I think that should be clear throughout this But I fell in love with him on Queer Eye and I think started following him and reaching out to him I think he's so funny.
He is he reminds me of all the great parts of Jess just so playful and yeah, innately funny He is yeah, it's also really important that we promote why Jonathan was here Which is he has new episodes of his podcast out every Wednesday getting curious which is fantastic And he talks to a bunch of great experts and he is so curious and he's launching several other podcasts in the curious world curious now And pretty curious curious now is where they are keeping up with the elections with climate change LGBTQ Ia plus writes and other news stories pretty curious is where they're talking all things beauty So please check those out and also feel free to check out his books over the top love that story and peanut goes for the gold So please enjoy this episode with Jonathan Van Ness My like office, but it's not giving like podcast vibes And then I started when this cute studio in Austin it does get podcast vibes and I don't love them I was like I think I was gonna turn my content capture room into podcast vibes So we just did that yesterday. It was not your space. Yeah, and it's like so nice just like come right over I'm like launching these like two new ones and it's like I actually faster turn around on them need to be right over there Exposing all of your electrical. I love that easy access, you know It's right there to take that idea I like that also be to charge a phone don't turn you at a good time because can I tell you because my husband is with me not My assistant my phone's almost dead and how much does your husband love being treated as your assistant when he's in this situation?
Oh Love Mark shoes cute, right? Yeah, he's like so attractive. Yeah, he's a ginger which is exciting No, right and if you learn probably from mark ginger in England's a much different thing that it is. Oh god Yeah, you're like a full-on marginalized citizen in the UK Oh That's gold that's not red.
Yeah, there's nothing more offensive than when someone's trying to slam you and they have it wrong It's just like structurally right right. It's like the foundations broke. I like when you have one year out I was really giving you like singer song right right now. Oh sure Do you long to be a singer when asked what superpower I would want?
I do want to feel what Adele feels like when she opens the whole cannon up and lets it blast that has to feel you for I want it So bad the worst part is is that sometimes I think I can sure and the next thing I know I'm really committed And then when I end up listening to it, I'm like wow, it's not going well What I don't recommend to you because I'm very similar is to marry a professional singer because even in the moments you think I made Some I just You're right. You're right. It's actually like I dreamed Yeah, already okay, I just like name it I have to get out of my sister right now I know this is yours. I said to name it all never something and then I'm gonna be able to pay attention I knew you were attractive.
Obviously I have eyes I exist on the earth, but I are well back to the timbers or shivered You are stunning to people often. Oh my how do you do things like tall and gorgeous every day of your life? It should be down now I definitely over index with men than I do with females well because you are so in the arousal template of gay and queer non-binary It's the Adams Adams Also the asymmetrical tattoos. It's also like not to be discussed and show off the bat, but it's a sin you with fucking body Like oh god dad, you know, it's like so safe mark you come hug me from the back He's oh my god.
I'm so safe. You're saying never been Oh, thank you guys. I was like I'm overwhelmed nervous as it when you're feeling like that you just have to name it The alert and then you're like wait everybody just people you don't have to actually everyone you know And then we say you're the same or the same listen in my research of you I've discovered were virtually the same or really yes What's curious is I wonder if the same catalyst to become how we were maybe I don't know we'll get to that part But I really yeah, in fact, I was interviewing Jane Fonda right and the interview had gone beautifully casual She's so wonderful actually not to also named up. I did wash her hair thrice Amazing salon where I got my start nice is amazing not to know So I know you're the guest of his a picture 2009 or 10 Jane Fonda doesn't get dropped off at this along by a driver She parked her fucking Prius I could see when I walked up read the paper.
Yeah, so classy tips really well So fucking nice strong right yes, but kind so nice. She called me Jesus. Oh my gosh. That's a really accurate Once greeted her with my hair blown out straight and she was like, oh, Jesus your hair straight today because it was always curly You have extraordinary hair.
It's beautiful not to take away the comment But it wasn't great, but it is great. Thank you Be the equivalent mean up in a parallel park your whole identity is in jeopardy now because this is what you're supposed to be able to do Okay, Jane Fonda interviews going great and at the end of it I say I want to ask you a question it's inappropriate But I feel like you're not gonna mind it you have a hard time liking someone and not immediately assuming well Then this should be romantic like if I like you then the next thing is romantic She goes oh my god so much I go because I want to marry you I don't know how to have the feeling of I respect you I admire you I'm impressed by you and not then go like and then I think I should be Yes, okay, it's really pretty much about that because I literally just did that with my social media manager I'm sorry. I was mad. We loved your his name is your and he's amazing.
I was like mark What is this feeling obviously is gorge for days later? I was like it's admire I admire him. I look up to him It's so rare that you think early for me because you're always just like oh that's fine But you don't have to do that because I like 26 me not so much now But I was like what is this weird feeling where it's not that I want you to split me in half and I was like admiration I think if I'm being my most honest what I think really happens in that moment is I admire her I respect her I want her to love me because I now want her approval because I've deemed her as really high status and wonderful to me The first thought of how to get her approval would be I know how to be romantic with this woman I can do that better than I am a protestor an activist these other things that might get her to like me I don't know that I have that but I know how to be romantic and loving with her I kind of think that's why it's my first stop is that's where I'm most confident to gain her love I was struggling with an intrusive thought that entire time because I'm gonna not respond to what you said until you What my true stuff about what I thought it would go away if I knew that I was about really but it didn't so far as not working It was a thoughts to me zero now. I'm obsessed with you and Jane Fonda having fiery hot passionate sex Yeah, I mean done the age is that is so fucking gorgeous You know what it's giving me it's giving me fucking Emmanuel Macron and the first lady of France Wow, because I just need more stories of older women getting their fucking cookies punched by like a hot younger man Yeah, like I want a real hot chemistry passion older woman younger man It's time actually do we just need the biopic of Emmanuel Macron and I think it's college teacher the first lady of France is college teacher Obviously there's a power balance at least it's not high school disgusting, you know, these are all adults here Yes, right.
I gotta tell you super power you have you're saying stuff that probably get you in trouble But you talk so fast people are like, yeah, wait, what are you on to the next thing? Oh, I think you just fuck no I think people are like trying to latch on to the thing they want to be mad at but you're on to another thing so quick It's almost like cideris he has that a little bit towards like but then he's saying something else And you're like wait, but that's really man's the playing on the fifth thought and you're like I guess none of that stuff mattered then Because while we hold that together really it's true But I do think that you and Jane Fonda leading and a really hot coming of age She was your like teacher in college and you like moved back to like that college town because maybe you got like a job or something There'd be a death of a tragedy because I'm sad I don't fucking know This is kind of a long time coming when you agree I've appreciated you on social media since queer I first came out No, I think about gay of thrones of course was the introduction. No, you didn't yeah I'm not gonna take too much credit Kristin was obsessed with gay of thrones. I'm my I know my vagina is petrified Oh my god, I'll do gay house of dragons just to do what we also will house of Right When the strikes First day of thrones she watches it all the time and then I'm in bed with her so then I start watching it And I think it's incredibly funny then comes queer eye and I was so touched by that first episode is the guy that had a big beard And he had redness in his skin.
I'm watching the episode with a unkempt beard in Rosation Not Rosation but redness from psoriasis thinking we also both have yeah, I have started right is oh my god I just got diagnosed a story out congratulations. I just got my whatever Zell Janz or you Maron I'm not a hero because of the fucking have oh right another one and I'm also on this other topical It's not a steroid and it's really giving me life I've had the worst rice like three months temperature changes in stress and diet I don't know if it's a type mine is a hundred percent diet mine So not it's like I'll be eating clean forever bam then I'll eat a bunch of Taco Bell, but for me It's not clean or not clean. It's like garlic's clean. That's a whole food I cannot eat garlic or I get a fucking rash immediately and my joints hurt and I love garlic.
I can't have gluten That's not dirty. I can't have peanut butter anymore peanuts. I know I'd rather just keep having psoriasis Yeah, like all my favorite food. I can't say just whatever you're using I think you do my western topicals.
Okay Injection Western Not gonna go to the root source. Okay. Yeah, I'm right. Don't hear the problem.
I'm not exactly we're also both very well versed in 12 steps Yes, very in by the way, so my dad died in 2012 28 years over minded to 2012 December 31st 2012 Yeah, yeah, yeah, and in Michigan it was actually the next year but here when I got the calls 11 o'clock at night But 20 years over 90 years over I think that's a reason me. Yeah, okay 12 steps speak the symptom not the right Yes, I'm not taking any inventory. Okay. You don't want to find your part in any of it's working right now And I just haven't hit my diet.
Sorry, it's bottom. Yeah, which is crazy because the skin is just peeling off the soul of my feet Is that where you'll get it? Well, no, it's because before I was using the steroid base one right this flare up I was like fucking I need a new dermatologist. I need help the same stuff as I'm working He's a few screen and he's like girl, when did you blast get this medicine?
And I was like 2018 isn't the latest and he was like no a lot of 2018 I was like oh really I just takes forever. He was like no girl, but prior that I've been using the steroid I was using it wrong the whole time and so basically I'm using it wrong I'm using it wrong. What's wrong? Did it thin all your skin?
But then also it was a thick foam and when you would rub it and I would wash my hands off But then if you touch your leg again, I had all my legs really bad So I always want to go to sleep you don't have the bottom my foot on my legs scratch No, I really didn't it just look ugly and maybe feel insecure and I usually do not lose my confidence But no it's from putting the souls my feet on the medication It didn't have to write some souls my feet on my hands But just rubbing it in peels your skin so like my fingertips on my feet from just constantly being in steroid Yes, and you only use up two weeks at a time so then I was two weeks on and it wouldn't make it go all the way away So I still had it and I was waiting another couple weeks like you was it again, but then suddenly I just fucking yeah I'm gonna get rid of this, but honey all of a sudden I feel is this giving me like grandpa skins I'm really excited. It's just so much better me stuff like it feels so much better if you two are struggling with survival It's like I am ask your local dermatologist because there are these new things using only things out of aisle They're like more targeted you see more like a sledgehammer, but I'm like a screwdriver It's just more targeted. It's not so hard on you. You're like carpet bomb your entire Exactly you get it on your penis and screwing them up crack.
Yes. Yes. Oh, not my dick. Thank God.
Well, I'm older than you And guess what that's where it migrated to no do you find that it moves like my name I'm like when I get out of control once I'm from my top of somewhere else that heat is gonna express itself with our Eastern understanding I didn't mean to really point you when I did that Every time he said Western Like Really like nailed that triple axially perfectly Well, I'm a little magical literally Your old tradition of a beta killing I got a doctor Jessica Hernandez from obsessed with she's an indigenous scientist She wrote this book called Fresh Banana Leaves. It's fucking incredible and she became a Western Quantitative researcher doctor to prove that her indigenous science is in fact science Yes, because it is science even if something is like an orally past tradition Just because it doesn't fit in the confines of what we've been taught doesn't mean that it doesn't have value and doesn't have a really important place So it's cool. I think yeah I think all you're arguing about really in these cases because I did an arvada cleanse to deal with this Yes entirely. That's where I started realizing like oh my diet's gonna really change this if I focus on it But I think really it's like they may explain the mechanism in a way that Western science doesn't agree with the actual mechanism of what's happening in your body But the results are the same I also feel like not binary that bitch.
I just like a both exactly Yes, yes, yes, whatever's working. Yeah, yeah, okay. Wow. So back to We're I we'll get to recovery clear.
I I went and ordered the same green tinted moisturizer You suggested and then I got the beard oil and then my wife was making fun of me in a very joyful way like look at this Sis poster boy for Hetro everything he saw this episode He went bought all these products right and then she tagged you and put it a post and then all of a sudden I was following you and then I want to say we've had some That follow back button so you know just interesting going through an experience for people who you've loved and watched and looked up to and just Amazing it's also funny when you're older than people who you looked up to and then they're like wait I'm like so much younger than you are you're talking about that I'll be like asking GG indeed for advice and she's like girl I need to fucking ask you shit. Can I just point out you guys were born in the same year 87? What a good year when Jerkbert says her actual yesterday was my husband's birthday is his mom's birthday today is his mom's birthday Today's everyone's mom's birthday. It's a really good.
This is the hottest week in all of birthdays is the late August It's people going up as a Christmas and they're like Yeah, yeah, cute fact about us My birthday has a nice my mom's birthday is the day after mine and Mark's mom's birthday is the day after his So suppose the best ever they like one day apart from her mommy, which is interesting That's perfectly time because I do want to walk through your life a little bit Okay, so what I would imagine having never met your mother although she was the vice president of this family media company Yeah, she had a lot of roles before that though as family business people generally do right end up doing everything at the place Yes, so you're from southern Illinois technically West central Yes, think about Illinois like the West side of the state area to geography incredibly and I've driven across the country a hundred times If you're looking at Illinois, you know, look at me. I need to close my eyes I can't look at you. Yeah, like think about like how on the West side it bubbles out There's like a pretty well. Yeah, so my hometown is right where the belly button would be of the pregnant ladies So we're actually the very furthest bit West in Illinois that you can be okay really all the way West we're actually so far west that we are actually West of St.
Louis Exactly right on the Mississippi River right across from Hannibal, Missouri, which is Mark Twain huckleberry fan I lovingly refer to the armpit of America. So it's a pregnant lady profile exactly. She's profile Yeah, exactly So I'm so sorry now. Should we just go through all the states and we're from each one for us?
I guess and if you're explaining to someone where you were from I'm saying I'm really like really I'm from the easiest state to do that to which is the mitten of Michigan and of course everyone from Michigan will point exactly to their Hand to tell you where they live where's the upper peninsula 35 people live there? So no one's ever pointing my family had a cabin and this lake and upper peninsula And we still go up there in this 18 or 1700s forever ago My family went there and there's this creepy letter because my family's really into genealogy of this lady Lucy was so depressed And she lived in the upper peninsula of Michigan and she's like my great great great great great great great great great Auntie and she fucking fell down the stairs and died and I'm pretty sure that she was so missing Ireland I think she fucking hurled herself down the goddamn stairs That's what I think you do. Yeah, do you know if it was in the winter time because up there you have very minimal light that far north I only went once in the winter there. I always went in the summer I jumped off this stair into what I thought was a foot of snow and the snow was above my head I was like no, I got really scared for a minute as my mom was like don't you know They all had to do me out of the whole thing my grandpa actually back into me in the face after that I would have punched a kid in the face for scaring me that bad too I turn a really peaceful like delicate moment into a nightmare Right, but you can understand in their mind.
It's a trade-off. It's like well I'm gonna hurt them this way so they don't hurt themselves the forever way. Yes, okay, but back to mom She was I'm an imagine a beast really really passionate about her work. I love that about her and she's amazing and you lived in this small What's the population 40,000?
Oh, 36,000 or something? Oh my god nearly the same as mom just to live Yeah, we were finding our hometown population and I overestimated my by 2x. Yeah, I thought it was 10,000 was 5,000 Oh, yeah, it's right where the suburbs turned into hillbilly land in farmland. Michigan's having such a renaissance.
Why? That's what we're gonna flip the Senate Like marijuana legalization we are getting in there We are getting abortion rights in the bucket say constitute there do and it yeah, I love that fucking Gretchen honey I adore hers. Yeah, I think she could be a real fireball guys. I just saw a clip of my yesterday I didn't trip did he or something no way worse.
No, he is what he is addressing the victims of the Maui fire No, no, no, no, and he is comparing a small kitchen fire He and his wife had in their home to this devastating and he's all over the map I'm a Democrat the fake news media But what if I was taking a cut is what if there is a video for right before that video? He's like look I'm about to get fucking crazy right now with this comparison the only context that could have possibly explained this Would be seconds before we walked out there like have this 13 ounces of mushroom tea and go into a college we like to call snake oil in our house because you think it's gonna be all fun and games and so Yes, do you meet God? The American public will be able to understand the nuance here's what I refuse to do for any political stance I have I'm not gonna be dishonest. This is insane.
This is our best option It's insane. You can't force me to be untruthful because I want legalized abortion I don't make those that's the kind of deals you make with fucked up parents like I'm gonna lie because I love you I'm gonna join this lie to show my loyalty to you. That's fucking dysfunctional This is not the best option for us and it's so embarrassing. I'm not willing to lie about it It is the best option between the two options It's the lesser of bad options you could argue but fuck that like on our side of the street We got to push forward the person But you know anything is really different about that though is actually an interesting conversation to have because I love these fucking Chats yeah having lived in Texas for the last three years it becomes very different And so I do have a thing with people who live in liberal states It's a lot easier for you to say that in a state where your health care isn't getting came for your kids can be themselves Department of Child and Family Services is investigating you if you have a fucking non-binary kid and abortion thing queen I literally live in a state where women cannot if they are getting me shit kicked out of them abuse the relationship can't fucking I'm sorry.
You can't fucking get it a fucking I guess before six weeks I mean who fucking knows about six weeks no one knows about six fucking weeks to me I will suck Joe Biden's dick but you prevent Let's be clear as someone who I've heard now in all these interviews I watch hates anytime you propose something as binary you can't paint a picture where I have to lie about I can still vote for him Absolutely, I will still vote Democratic, but I don't have to lie and say I think this is anywhere close to the best person We have as an option to run the country. I'll still not vote for Trump over it And I think this is what makes me an America I can is that I have so much love and compassion for even Trump supporters I do too but because of the lack of access to education the access to Responsible journalism to actually make informed decisions He is the fucking best choice we have not for you personally and not for me personally because we have brains and those people also have brains I don't love how you're framing it right now Which is if the right was educated they would pick our site I reject that They are Conservative they don't like how quickly the country's changing. I understand that I can sympathize with that they have different fears than we do It's not because they're dumb or uneducated. They have a difference of opinion No, I think that misinformation and disinformation plays a huge role in that especially when it comes to gender-affirming care and access to abortion and misinformation on the left is like COVID you can start with COVID the most incredibly comprehensive study that looks at all of the journalism from the left-leaning papers during COVID reporting The information as it rises all over the rest of the world.
It's about 50-50. There's some good news or some bad news New York Times 78% bad news. That's the left. The New York Times isn't a left-leaning It absolutely is.
They're anti-trans. They platform multiple anti-trans people and if we want to get my phone out I can look it up so that I'm not misspeaking to be against trans liberation and queer liberation in the year of our Lord and Savior 2023 makes you absolutely not progressive left-leaning. Let's take one second. So it's a big spectrum.
I'm very far right Let's say you would say my supportive trans folks would include them competing in the Olympics That's the far end of that spectrum on the very far other end of the spectrum. You have people saying they're not entitled to these rights They shouldn't be allowed to transition. There's this huge spectrum I don't think that the entire news organization is no longer left-leaning because they fall off on one area of this spectrum How you do anything is how you do everything. So if you're willing to take that risk of platforming someone who is literally in your journalistic institution I mean, I guess it's an opinion column, but still is this the one article that was in support of JK Rowling?
Is that what you're referencing? There's like that one and then there's several other ones, but especially on gender affirming care But also even JK Rowling what she retweets as far as being in support of non-trans inclusion and sports non-trans inclusion and bathrooms and stuff have Really harmful real misinformation. I interviewed the trans man who was paralyzed playing rugby that she was tweeting about And she was saying that this man who weighs like this much is gonna occur to all these women actually This is a trans man who was paralyzed by a cis-het woman But hold on a trans man would be competing against other men He was competing with women because he was a woman he was assigned female at birth He was transitioning as he was going through his transition that was his last game and he was transitioning to play with men after that He hadn't taken hormones He was going to start hormones who was not gonna play with the women anymore He was starting playing with the men his name is very Smith And I want to make sure I didn't mess that up I'm pretty sure that was the order and how that happened He ended up becoming paralyzed from the waist down in that last game his face was used in a lot of articles that were saying this guy Went to play with women. He wanted to play with men.
Right, right, right You know or examples of studies where like biological men will be compared to biological women And then that will be the basis for why trans women can't play sports where it doesn't take into account any of the studies on what happens to trans women's bodies When they achieve and maintain certain hormonal levels when you've been on estrogen for more than one two three four years I think what a lot of people in what that article in the Times was pointing out is any time you have any questions of them You've got any pushback I think to say that someone can't question without threatening to take someone's right away to explore these things Some people are very uncomfortable about teenagers transitioning. They're challenging that How do we know that the person's not gonna change your mind? Then there's another counter-onterment. Well, if they kill themselves then that's really fucking permanent.
That's a good counter-argument This whole notion that to be critical or to question you're seeing the whiplash reaction to that That's what this fucking text of shit's about because to even question it makes you an enemy I don't think that's the way forward rebuttal. I feel like I'm talking to my dad. Okay So you've practiced. Yeah, look when JK Rowling and her platform retweeted articles that say that if a 20 stone man plays Rugby against a 10 stone woman is she not going to be hurt?
That's dangerous We shouldn't have trans women playing sports because it's going to be too dangerous for women There's so many things to unpack here about JK Rowling her platform and then also just the data that we're pulling this hypothetical situation from So sports are inherently dangerous when you're playing women sports men sports and break your leg You can break your fucking ankle when I think about the pair's figure skating competition from 2002 the lady hit her head and Pailed by her skating partner and then had a traumatic brain injury and then those like skating about their Yeah, sports are inherently dangerous sports are also inherently extremely unfair You can't really talk about fairness in sport if you don't talk about economics So let's talk about fairness in sport if you come from a family who's living in poverty if you come from a geographic place where there's No figure skating there's no pools. There's no tennis court. There's no golf course. There's no pickleball Whatever, there's no basketball team is that there when we talk about sport and people's ability to participate in those sports if their parents don't have money So economics geography.
That's a really big deal in sport. Now. We can talk about biology Michael Phelps This had me on greatest swimmer of all time. He also has these double-jointed ankles He also has webbing in his toes that comes up farther than other peoples.
He has biological advantages He has a wingspan that's like seven feet wide. He's biologically a fucking human torpedo Yeah, so his biological advantages are celebrated and lauded and are amazing now Let's take a sprinter like castersimena who was the 2012 I think 1500 and 800 meter Olympic gold medalist and as well 2016 she was born with an intersex variation Which there are like six really well-known ones No, and a lot of times they affect more people from the global south more women from the global south So all of her hormone levels were within the acceptable ranges. She was not born assigned male at birth You know, she has an intersex trait. So even biologically gender is not fixed in two binaries It's on a spectrum and most people reside in one of the two male and female That is true, but there are according to Anthosos sterling search.
There's two percent of people now transphobes will say that's an overblown number And it's actually more like 0.02% as someone who has a degree in anthropology. I also think that's very very high I know the incident rating of Klein filters. I know the incident rating of all these very well Klein filters is XX y Okay, so there's six yeah, there are but we don't test all babies for chromosomal abnormalities And when you look at the levels of infertility and people throughout history and currently who is to say and what's to say Short of chromosomal testing every single baby that's born who's to say that it's not we're coming but let's say it is point two percent Three hundred thirty million people live in the United States So 10% of three hundred thirty million is thirty million people so five percent of thirty three million is what 18? Five percent of three three million would be six million Okay, so I'm basically just trying to get to like what is point two percent right point two percent would be take off a hundred So three hundred million would be one million then divide it by five so that'd be two hundred thousand So that's two hundred thousand people two hundred thousand people in the United States and their families and their friends and their loved ones What bathrooms do they use do they get to play sports?
Do they get to be included and also when we're talking about transition intersects babies? Alicia Rothweigall has an amazing book coming out. It's called inverse cowgirl. I had her on my podcast I love her.
She's incredible intersection of Texas who's been having these conversations for a lot longer than this has been a hot Potten cultural topic, but she was born with a complete androgen sensitivity Which is an intersex variation she was born with an external vagina and internal testes when she was born the doctors literally told her parents It's easier to dig a hole than build a pole. So they were like you got to make your little girl girl We got to do this gender confirming surgery She will have to work spandered for the rest of her life Which is something that so she could potentially have intercourse some day So from the time she was like a little girl wearing expanders having to be on estrogen from the time she was like seven years old So that she could have like a normal puberty actually on seven but from a very young age So for intersex people surgeries encouraged to enforce this idea of a gender binary and what biologists will tell you is that it is not exactly one and two That's an oversimplification of biology even if you look at the very limited number of trans people who haven't allowed to play around elite sport or elite competition to take at lee at Thomas for instance none of her numbers were record setting none of her height weight measurements were out of portion in all the pictures of the podium where they're like look how much bigger she is If you take her and look at an Olympic level she wasn't outside of the realm of possibility for someone who is assigned female at birth Also in the United States the last thing I think I saw was 1.7 million people identify as trans adults over the age of 18 in the United States And there's 330 million people There's just so many things that are so much more important and we're over here being like well There's legitimate concerns that people have with what 1.7% and so all I'm saying is what we know about misinformation and disinformation is when you have an Outsize reaction to something there's a good chance that you're being exposed to misinformation and disinformation and a lot of the rhetoric around anti-trans inclusion and just The anti-trans backlash does have a lot of misinformation and disinformation in it When you look at historically the way that marginalized communities have been scapegoated in very much a similar fashion When have we ended up better? I think if you aren't personally impacted by an issue for people who are it just is a bit exhausting Yeah Stay tuned for more armchair expert if you dare There's a couple things I just want to point out and the issue of it not being fair or lack of fairness your explanation is well There's other things that are unfair. I would say then let's fix those things that are unfair Let's fix this socioeconomic problem that prevents certain people from having access to these things Yeah, do I wish that the trans woman athlete had access and could play and follow her dreams?
I do will I elevate her rights over women? We're pretending that women aren't the ultimate marginalized class throughout history people have written cervix haver and she goes no no no there's a name for us you can't steal my identity to help your cause You can't take away the defining characteristic that allows me to relate to all these other women who have been oppressed now There's hate mongers there's people that fucking don't like trans people. We're not talking about people with client filters We're not talking about people with chromosomes what people are questioning which is could the captain of the water polo team that was male for 19 years Next month or in one year compete against girls and women would that be fair to girls and women? That's a fair question Sure, I appreciate what you said There is a few things little girls who want to just be able to like join a dance team with their girlfriends in Iowa or be able to play golf or Figure skate without you leading I probably would kill myself in high school and I sometimes really wrestle with my gender identity I'm not sure that I am not trans and there's been 500 bills this year alone in the United States that target trans kids Whether that's gender firm care whether that's bathrooms whether that's sports There isn't legitimate questioning going on there is like a public targeted onslaught towards queer people There are many people targeting queer people don't want them to have rights.
I agree with you I don't have those opinion watch back shepherd parrot a lot of the same things one of the issues But also I don't know how often it's happening in the state of Iowa There were zero trans athletes and actually I think in many of the states where trans athletes have been banned all the way through high school There have been no chance athletes It's a boogie man to make a spiel that our girls are being attacked that there are things are being taken away with fairness in sport When you look at what is awarded in advertising sports deals just to men and women on the whole men get so much more money So much more coverage so much more accolades so much more attention so much better training opportunities That's a way bigger threat to women's sports and really what we're talking about here The whole transit can really be boiled down to this I think at least for one faction of it We're coming from a place of scarcity and not from place of abundance There is enough for everyone we've been told by colonialism by white supremacy by patriarchy That there's not enough for everyone and that there is always a boogie man in the 50s It was communism in the 60s it was fucking hippies in the 70s and 80s It was like russians in the cold war the 90s is like a little bit Middle Eastern and then 2000s definitely so much Islamophobia And now we are really looking at queer people and it does hurt my heart to see people who I respect taking up for positions But really the thing that I'm bummed about right now is that if you wanted to lay out your points where you'd say This would make you supportive of the movement and you laid out 10 If I'm along for nine of them and not the 10th You file me in this enemy category I'm telling you I mean kind of great how whatever beliefs you want go for it I just say it is disappointing when you realize the amount of people they think they're really fighting for something A lot of people have a lot of concerns about kids young people making any sort of transition anything Whether that's a hormone blocker whether that's a haircut whether that's a pronoun change or that's a name change Whatever, but there's a lot of vitriol around hormone blockers Right now there's a lot of legislating That's what all of these anti-gender affirming care bills are that are like in Nebraska, Texas, Arkansas, Florida North Dakota, South Dakota They limit anyone's ability to access gender affirming care which can be hormone blockers So the International Skating Federation who talks about sports and also you know even your argument earlier with transinclusion Sports if you've lived as a man for 38 years and you've gone through a puberty of a biological male No matter estrogen is ever going to allow you to be able to fairly compete with women First of all 38 year olds aren't going to the Olympics to compete with 23 year olds and transition at 38 And then go try to make the Olympics if it was it'd be someone who's like a little bit younger who's still in their prime and whatever But let me finish my point on the one it's like people are like well If you've gone through puberty then you definitely are never going to be able to compete with women because that's not fair If you've been through an irreversible biological thing well you can't play sports because that wouldn't be fair But then on the other hand we have all these other people that are saying well Even if you know your trans and even if you've been living as a little girl or a little boy and your family supports you and your mom and dad say That's okay and the doctors are agreeing with you and you didn't get on hormone blockers on the first time someone saw you've been having therapy for years You've had an endocrinologist you have a whole team of experts who are like, yes This kid is stuck in trans when you get them on hormone blockers Yeah, that little girl loves to run that little girl loves to do figure skating maybe she's in a sport She's been on hormone blockers forever Well in these dates she can't do that anymore So like an Iowa for instance literally can run all just like if your kid is on hormone blockers or on hormones Either you got a decent decision you got to move because it's child abuse now So get the fuck out of here. Oh wow, that's what they said in Iowa that passed Oh, yeah, oh wow and in Texas they're investigating families of trans kids for child abuse and I protested the couple quite a bit So I've had a lot of parents come and tell me like you know if these things passed we have to move those things are happening I've had several trans friends one of whom was held down by police at the Austin State Capitol Who said so to San Diego because they are so fearful to live in Austin Those are people I know like in my personal life I'm not reading about it like I live it because I live there So do you see what I'm saying? I have a little kid is trans and they want to play any fucking sport now I also think that all sports are the same. Yeah, I don't think that like I don't think that tackle football is the same as figure skating I also think for certain sports like figure skating being a man isn't really help like anything that makes you bulkier Makes you spin less fast, you know balance being for instance.
Yeah, yeah gymnast There are certain things that will be fluorotently. That's like a little more power But the point is there is a gigantic spectrum of ability within women and men Yeah, yeah, of course and I once had someone say if trans women were allowed to transition We would have never had Serena Williams because the 10,000 best man could have transitioned and beat Serena Williams I just like think how little do we think of women's athletes I don't think that the 10,000 ranked male tennis player could beat Serena Williams Maybe which I think is just right now So I just think there's a lot of patriarchy There's a lot of trans misogyny but back to trans people in sports for adults This door's already been slim shut the NCAA has completely changed your rules There never will be another lee at Thomas You have to like have never played on a sport is a man You have to get on hormones for three years You got to sit out your first year so there'll never be another lee at Thomas and then see double a recently I think the swimming union and some other people who have included trans women in their ability play for the last two decades have rescinded all that And how many trans people can we name that were major swimmers in the Olympics not one trans women were able to play tennis for the last 20 years? Can we think of one elite trans tennis player? I can't conservatives do need a bogeyman right now They need a scapegoat.
Well, I definitely think a lot of people who are anti-trans are using this as a Trojan horse Absolutely if you and I can't have a conversation about it Well, I do think we have to be well, we are but we have to be careful I'm a non-binary fucking trans person You know when I talk to my dad or people who say similar things it's hard to be cool through that Right, I think it is exhausting when you just have to constantly be the person to I mean we've talked about this a bunch There's just a threshold of like I just can't do it anymore I totally understand it's also just little kids want to play tennis or they want to play basketball or they want to play Whatever so can the kid play if they get on hormone blockers So they don't go through puberty because all of those studies really show that when kids go through hormone blockers They don't grow they don't develop the same way like that I'm gonna be on a more even playing field It's like two opposing things are happening so you can't do hormone blockers But then you can't play sports unless you've done more more And so all of these things are happening in different governing bodies in state legislatures and governing bodies for athletics Should someone's rights be held over someone else's rights? No, but women aren't not being allowed to play Trans women are not being allowed to play little kids don't get to join a non-competitive dance team The punishment is so far outweighing the reality and I just think that that is a problem in LA like you said We're in a major bubble here trans people can do sports if they're kids. We are not as aware of what's going on outside I'm not calling you a transphobe. You cannot be transphobic and still have thoughts espouse trans misogyny and espouse transphobic ideologies or beliefs and not be transphobic Just like how I have to challenge biases about white privilege and make sure that I'm not speaking over someone who is a person of color Like a black person we're talking about racism or police brutality I just get a lot of little kids who don't get allowed to like join groups I was really bullied for my gender expression as a little kid And there's a lot of little kids who aren't gonna go be a limical medalist They don't want to fucking go to the Olympics.
They're not gonna play college. That's most most most kids 99% of kids who want to play sports Aren't trying to go to the Olympics. Right. Honestly, I just I wanted to come like chat about my podcast I did not intend that all to get into a debate with you about this.
I didn't want that at all I adore you. I think you're hysterical and talented and I love that you're an activist I could just like cry because I'm like so tired of having to like fight for little kids because they just want to be included I wish that people were as passionate about little kids being able to like be included or grow up as they were about fictitious women's fairness in sports I have to tell you I'm very tired and I'm really sorry But I would say it is an interesting schism within democrats right now because it's centrist democrat I mean I once got cancelled on twitter for saying that all republicans aren't racist aren't yes Progressives were saying all republicans aren't racist, but I have to say that relocating to a conservative state and doing a lot of work on this I 100% recant that because you can have racist beliefs and not know you're racist Just like you can have transphobic beliefs and not realize that you have transphobic beliefs That doesn't mean you're a bad person and actually wrote a whole chapter about this in my second book Love that story, which is called sorry care and white privilege looks really bad on you Where I am a reckoning with my love for my family and how proud I am of them But also realizing that part of how they became so successful in broadcasting is because there was a literal whole group of people that weren't allowed to see at the table But you can be proud of something and be like that was wrong. Yeah, I love a ton of flawed people But I do just think there's a lot of casual questioning of things were like I'm not because the result is not trans kids getting to play sports or not Even though that is a result. It's also health care.
It's also gender based violence. It's also just out now violence It's a really difficult time right now. I'm sure my friend elo could do like a synopsis on this for explaining academically why this was so fucking trigger city I'm sorry. It was trigger city.
I do think we fell into it honestly talking about whether or not the New York Times was liberal enough Yeah, again sincerely. I did not want you to come in here and then challenge your position on any of these things Oh, no, I understand it's kind of one of those things like whenever you have one of those it doesn't even like really matter You're just like I'm so emotionally exhausted. I'm sure you're disappointed in me. I'm not disappointed in you I'm just like emotionally exhausted from like You're sick of having to do this defend everything.
You're identity kids all of it Yeah, but also I do think and I know it's exhausting and it sucks so much to have to be the person where it's rest under shoulders And I've done it for race stuff. I do find it helpful for people Well, like Bernabe around who I know you love she says it's it's not on black folks to have to set the table for this For races and I think you're right to feel like it's not It's not on my shoulders to set the table for you, but there really is so much misinformation There's one thing I could leave little kids are not getting gender-free assignment surgery three-year-olds are not going and getting his directing We're not getting fucking breasted. No, there's a moral panic Just like there was a satanic moral panic and there was a child-mlessed moral panic and yes now we're in a trans moral panic And now because of the sports aspect of that and that's why I'm so triggered by it because without cheerleading and gymnastics I would not have made it. No, obviously I didn't even think it was an option for me to try out for cheer as a trans girl But if I had an affirming family and hadn't been born in 1987, I honestly still struggle with this It's something I talk about my husband with like it's also like didn't mean to talk about this no But I still struggle with my gender expression I don't know that I don't live like this because I'm scared of the vitriol that trans people face every day And so like for people that are like you're so authentic and you're so brave.
I'm not well you are I mean, I'm not I think you are can I tell you I think the way you live your life is much more brave than someone doing a backflip on a motorcycle That's nice truly because we're scared of people in the Olympics now kid marginal terrible athletes who just want to learn about communication Team building how to work together they don't get the opportunity and also when you look at the rates of homelessness Suicide lack of employment and I mean suicide so we talk about a lot but when you really look at employment and life opportunity When you've been getting made fun of not a part of the group You don't get the social skills everyone else gets that has social capital impact for the rest of your life knowing how to like work a room knowing how to talk To someone how to put someone at ease knowing how to take direction knowing how to be part of a team sports half real world implications Like just the people who suck at them to yeah, not a threat to the podium I agree the vast majority of the people who play sports that's why I'm crying because those are the kids who are paying the price for this And that is heartbreaking which in program false evidence appearing real fear acronym. Yeah, I love it. Fear acronym But good orderly direction Oh, yeah No, it's like I think that you can have conversations and I don't think everyone gets paid an endurance for bucket But I also think that the pervasiveness of transphobia and the depth to which transphobia has seeped into even left-leaning institutions Which you know compared to Breitbart or Fox is New York Times left-leaning? Absolutely it is but as I've learned more about the history of scapegoating racism transphobia homophobia in the United States and how the government and the Press have worked really hand-in-hand to proliferate a lot of those ideas I'm saying like the lavender's here especially well and there's the Martin Luther King quote Which is really salient from your point of view which is like beware of the white liberal Who will tell you that the timetable you're on is plenty fast enough?
Yeah, I think what we try to do here is question and get a little deeper into the nitty-gritty of the debate And I'm sure it's completely exhausting and I did not intend for your time here to be that I didn't know it's fine But also sorry. Yeah, yeah, it's my heart. I think I upset you. I didn't want to look you did not send me I just I get it.
Yeah, I get it. Yeah. Do you know you guys have this cheerleading thing in common? Yeah, it was a two-time state champ.
Oh my god. Yes. Say my life to California. No, Georgia But it's still very aggressive very aggressive very strong cheer community in Georgia high-flyer come on Yeah, home of angel rice a major power tumbler and also major cheerleader.
We love angel. Oh US power tumbling team she was like on top guns or whatever she was a major Like a kind of cheer queen well, I wasn't an all-star cheerleader was just high school competition, but we did win state twice good for you That's hard. Thank you. Yes, the routine is very impressive.
I've watched it. Oh my god. I just see the link yesterday Yeah, I was not doing the pressure of having one in returning as champions Come on back on one is hard to be triggering because we just talked about the Olympics But I'm gonna try to do the Olympics another thing because I was reading about you I put something together that I'm curious if that's similar so Monica's obsessed with the Olympics to all growing up gymnastics Just like you right now. I'm thinking about how you're so triggered.
I live in magnificent I love them so much. I did it to interview Shannon Miller. Oh my god was I did it and then she followed me on Instagram. Oh Yeah, she did she followed the fuck out of me I don't know why but she does her hands on her thumbs.
Oh, I know I know I did that together I saw me in life now just like wow the ergonomics of your fingers She can still do it. Yeah the handstand. Yeah, it was in the lobby of my old podcast network did the damn thing Full-pear wet to fucking fingertips. Oh my god.
She's a hardcore nerve Steel now this actually just came up on my YouTube shorts I was watching the beam final for 2000 2004 2008 and 12 on a plane this morning So you have a very early flight and Sean Johnson that 2008 Yeah, full metal beam when you because nastia had beat her in the all-around then they also got silver in team that you're because I'm beatable And then she also got silver in floor because nastia was relentless And then I think someone beat Sean and vol which her aminar was major I got a look at what happened with that Because I don't understand what happened with Sean there But Sean's beam of the middle that was her last chance to become an Olympic gold medalist I mean she didn't know at the time So obviously she was getting for 12 and it didn't work out that was fierce five was Step competition with you to come in 2011 and she was great 2011 I fucking love gymnastics so much it literally hurts my queer bones Can I ask the parallel that I wondered about both of you is Monica's in Georgia She's feeling very other and she has to be perfect at all times to fit in and not get excluded You're feeling obvious feelings mean in rural Illinois to watch something where there is an objective score given based on ability And no other bullshit doesn't matter if you have red hair or you have this or you've got if you do this series of things You will get this score this is kind of an appealing now Are you seeing how we were so far apart on gender things? It is not like that though. It's not no. Oh no No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no because it's You're skating is anything but objective.
Oh and I love it anyway, but it is incredibly unfair Okay, I thought maybe like watching someone exert ability and be judged on that and no other shit Everything is involved I mean if you're here isn't right if you gain too much weight but it's not in a different vein, right? It'll be like you know her leaps aren't reaching 180 degrees or she is more of a powerful gymnast and an interpretative gymnast They have to reverse engineer what they really like to make it sound so that's actually really interesting though The Olympics and gymnastics the US National Championship serve in August and then they'll select the world team for what's in October and every four years There's like a new code of points the power players that make the rules were like this was actually like thinly veiled at Simone and just the US in general But really Simone because they were like, you know all this power We're just doing tricks real women's gymnastics is about artistry and grace to because men's is supposed to be more powerful So we don't want to incentivize all this power trying to keep it quote feminine They want to make it more graceful So now dance and artistry on balance beam and floor are as important if you fall what your form they can deduct so much just for expression Artistry especially for musical interpretation like that's a new thing now in gymnastics So I like they use to make fun of like gymnastics like being all robotic and stuff. Yeah, no No, no now you will see they are giving you fucking ballet They're giving you fluid They're hitting every beat and the people who were winning kind of have a little bit more threat now You know our girls that are a little bit more robotic they got to get it together with all those dance They really do which is a completely different skill. It's a whole different thing I mean when you're doing that much twisting and flipping exactly like the dancing was in the 80s and 90s It was like when you cut your breath Like which in my opinion is way fucking harder than men's and not all of them But some of the girls are doing tumbling passes that are very comparable to men for sure and also Simone's double your chinko that would out score Can you tell me about your chinko?
So she it'll be the biles when she does it at the Olympics because it'll be the first time the woman has performed this ball International competition so you're doing a round off onto the board so that you're facing backwards Where you came then you're doing a backhand spring on the ball and then she does it's really two and a half back So from where she's taking off it's really three, but because she's even putting her hands on the ball It's like two and a half so but there's like one rushing guy named like Nikita Nagorni He's a Olympic team gold medalist and I think got silver in the all around in 2021 He performs that vault as good as she does another good example that not to keep bringing back to gender by Makayla Maroney 2012 her Aminar they literally put it and this was like a really viral thing that they didn't ever see all the fucking time where her Aminar was literally two feet over Kenzo Shirai's who is the men's all around gold Her whole torso was like a foot and a half and they would superimpose them on each other So even with the idea that all men are categorically stronger than all women just because they're men That's also something that we need to challenge. Oh, yeah, there's lots of women there's stronger than me for sure But when we transpose that on to fairness in sports a lot of the argument is men are always stronger than women Full stop but back to their light hearted things because I'm getting there again gymnastics is gonna be a really fun year really quick Have you been asked to commentate or be involved in the Olympics? What is stopping you you are an encyclopedia of gymnastics? I'm like a hair business over here.
I got like five fucking cats. I got three dogs. Why don't you do your own thing? Okay, actually I'm in a commission.
You know that's really and I actually thought about this before But you already have a medium part nobody wasn't even like green screen stadium, you know And then I just do my little commentator version A little recap, but obviously can't use that stuff because the peacock will come for me one more thing because you were talking about why we were Drawn to it as sort of outsiders. I think it's just the community where even within the community if you're killing it Then there's an acceptance there that you can't get any other it's so true because I was a really good back spot So it didn't matter that I was like super fucking queer. No everyone wanted you No, it's really interesting that people used to say that you're the most popular kid in school But no one likes you but everyone knows you I would say that's what you make things girls I was all you you guys got me socially accepted out here in the city. Thank you first male cheerleader in your high school's history Yeah, I got scared because they're like a yell leader in the 40s or something like we know like a different time But definitely contemporary Quincy history.
I was the first one with the girls with the starts Stay tuned for more if you dare You do a ton of gymnastics on your Instagram, which I follow I'm always blown away with your agility and your athleticism Thank you, you're tall. It's not like you're not a 411. I do get a gal people tell me that I'm taller than they thought it would be It's all really tall. I was also known in high school for being tall.
No, but the same thing you said like everyone knew me But you were popular by no way, that's right. That's right. That's right I feel very familiar, but we have another shoes about even through all of that other conversation even when it got like You does it dead? Yeah, and I think this guy is also extremely attractive with a pass like what totally like that's Like really do people ever tell you that you kind of give them a little bit of like a hot diplo vibe?
I don't know what diplo is like. Okay, this Similar just like really hot. It's like hot. We know we have a couple things Can I talk to you every morning when I'm looking in the mirror?
It's not what I do see But not as bleached at all, but right away. He's got kind of big features, right? He's got big lips like I do he's got prominent This for me is a picture where he really gives me you oh He is fucking Jacked by think you're probably Jack like topless. You're giving me like Jack topless I'm happy to finish this interview with my shirt off I think I say another thing that's happening is I have black eyebrows right in blonde or hair in a red beard And he has very dark eyebrows for how white his hair is I think that's also in the mix I feel like your eyebrows are the color of a number two pencil like they're a dark one I was like a little bit like appropriating.
No, I'm not a little bit Not a one-in it's a seven-in Okay, well, I'm fucking delighted that you think Which is kind of along the lines a pretty curious our new support podcast of getting curious you guys I'm watching a beauty podcast before getting curious. Yes. Would you mind if I walk people through it? Just right now to get curious.
You've been doing since 2015. Yes long before we were we're posers You've been doing every eight years It's really really incredible and then now you are launching two new shows or maybe more But I know about curious now, which is kind of news related. Yes, some of the debate we had maybe You'll like it. Yes, and then pretty curious which is beauty.
Yes, which is insane that it took you eight years to have a beauty podcast I realize because I'm getting curious as my baby I really started like I love to learn and I was like I need to learn about history and things that I never learned about in school How do I keep doing that so really like starts like a passion project? I just wanted to keep learning about things but at the beginning I was cold emailing like PhDs and professors from all over the country by myself And I was like also a hairdresser doing gay with her own So it's like a very different experience. Yeah, and obviously queer I made it really different But every week I'm getting curious you really can see my ADHD shine not only in my interview style But also in the topics that we cover well, I listen to the episode about gossiping which I love it was amazing Was not and I loved that was really interesting we did work as recently like so much work as yes But in the last time we did the whales we did the science of sleep I learned so much I think I didn't know about it and I'd be like a myth busser's episode So what about this why I say what about that why I say what about this thing? Yeah What was the one that you were most blown away with wasn't true which wives tale?
We're probably gonna show that expression pretty soon right? You know drinking much alcohol or eating much of sugar So a lot of the things were pretty much true and it's also about relearning stuff because if you don't get enough sleep When you're presenting with you information you can't make space in your brain to like take on new stuff So if you're in a process yesterday, yeah, yeah Because basically like every day we're just like making a mess in our brain and then the sleep you gotta put everything back up on On the bookshels But it's also making more space in the bookshelves to like retain for research prove that because they used to say the per consolidation It wasn't about making new space. It was just consolidating what you already know But it's actually you have to sleep like make new space. Yeah, that's one of the criticisms of some of the sleep medication that is narcotic Yes, is that your brain now isn't functioned in the real It really affects the second stage of sleep so there's like a one two three and then the rim cycle And I always thought that that was a one-time thing But really you cycle through that five to six times at night But it goes like one two three rim one two three rim then it goes one two rim one two rim so you skip that third But where marijuana really affects is the second cycle and there's these things called sleep spindles that are supposed to be a couple Seconds once a minute and I can't remember she said it was like seven minutes like 20 minutes Whatever the time is yeah, it's supposed to be like a little dibs it and then it comes again And they can see that on the brainways when they do the sleep studies people on marijuana Their sleep spindles take five minutes.
So it's gonna be a little bit actually the second cycle is really important for consolidation So I was like So sleep Which was really interesting I thought the paparazzi like the same people around the right car behind you know It's like a lot of thing and then what else oh Bierse's that was a really long time ago in my ADHD just one there That's from my list of all-time favorites But some of my ones that I loved the most are learn the most was Deborah Antonovitch She's like an abortion expert of works experts where things say she's really a historian who studies the intersection of Medicine law in the American West She's like an ex-rond like dr. Quinn and the medicine woman and all that stuff But her whole thing was Dobbs was reversed on John Roberts said that abortion isn't deeply rooted in American history So he used that as a justification for overturning rho and her whole fucking thing is that while abortion didn't look like it does now Benjamin Franklin literally had an abortion recipe in his diary Oh, wow Abortions back then looked like a cocktail that a midwife would make you when you had an unwanted pregnancy It's just that back then sometimes they would fucking kill a woman And actually the first abortion law was an 1830 in Connecticut to protect the mother That's why rho v weight one because yes There's so many women dying of illegal abortions But we have these Supreme Court justice who are using history to interpret these things in certain cases like they're not fucking historians And that's what her whole thing was is that actually abortion is incredibly deeply rooted in this country's history When you fucking look at things like midwives and the history of abortion law and you will see that women have been trying to control their reproductive freedom for a fucking long time Really quick. So we do something similar right so thursdays as experts my name is famous people like you and then thursdays is professors scholars invent You name it right lawyers they provide my whole social life Just like you're doing right now. This is me on a Friday or a monocon on the Saturday at dinner Oh, we had this owl expert in you wouldn't believe I was just like all of a sudden I'm so obsessed with owls and I think my life would be so boring if we need to talk to these people once a week I've gotten to learn so much of what I know from it Jake Newsome he did the history of the queer victims of the Holocaust which really when it comes to transphobia and homophobia learning that history I was like oh my god paragraph 175 Google that shit But anyway what I'm also I'm getting curious is not everyone in here about that Sometimes you're about dreishampu Sometimes you want to hear about fucking lip gloss sometimes you want to hear about your favorite body I've siloed out these different interests of yours so that people know what they're gonna get I'm pretty curious It's all beauty knowing me I probably wound up dipping my toe into something and I patch my cat you know divorce myself before we move on from Germany Can I recommend a book called blitz to be read blitz?
No, it's not amazing drugs in the third right they invented crystal math Yes in the 20s they invented it and then all the soldiers were given rations of math And whether they're stuck on speed yet a doctor with them at all times by the end like when he's making those terrible decisions about Russia Or not going into Dunkirk and you would love this as a fellow drug addict If you look at his bunkers the walls kept getting thicker and thicker and thicker and the one he actually dies and ultimately the walls are 13 feet thick of cement and he's never leaving and he's just shooting I'm not sleeping in your soul. I'm not that paranoia I was like fucking paranoia terrible piece of shit But at some point had some acumen for war and then you just see that completely nose dive perfectly correlated with him becoming a junkie Well, thank God It's really fascinating to see that that time they had perfectly pure cocaine for dental work and all this Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, meth and fed me you could just go to the drug store No prescription just buy them. Thank you and the fact that when they invaded Poland when you now know this they were all on mess So yeah, they fucking march for 36 hours because they were So fascinating actually one more little tiny thing for getting curious world Yeah, so then I was like where do I get to really be a slutty whore? Where am I really gonna have fun?
Yeah, so ask JVN. It's giving talks sex with Sue Johansson It's like after dark. It's like can I have a three way safely with my ex? You know what's prep all the sex things like how do I get ready for any like to the great question the other day about how Gently get into butt plugs and I have to say that I got plugs with my friend Which I was talking about on this they had not gotten carmen's Andy going their ass now It's time for us to investigate down there if you're growing up But I was shocked at the price of these butt plugs higher low high we said $220.
I too you kind of got them cheaper than that I don't know I'm quite the same I really loved it how my whole finger like I'd rather use what you're dick and it's like you know I mean vibrators are expensive. I didn't know I Never needed to get my ass ready and that way I was already ready. So I didn't have to like really go that route I've never had to buy one. Yeah, and I learned but the vibrators have at least some mechanical components That you could like it did have like a Rolling Lus got a lose That's a fourth S JV.
Yeah, that's a sleeper. Okay, I love this reason network. Yeah, it's everything getting curious. I love it so much And our team loves it.
It's like we've been doing it for eight years There's just more I wanted to talk about and especially bounding JV and Harold I just work with a lot of other cosmetic chemists and founders and I thought I was really neat deep when I was in This salon I'm real fucking you now. It's like I like talk shop. I want to learn more the beauty Just really interesting. I'm using what is your opinion on I have taken to maybe you can see from there I'm wearing a tinted moisturizer with it looks great.
It's not great, but this tinted moisturizer from Victoria Beckham Oh, she was a gas and she brought it. Yeah, she was and boy am I addicted to it the British skincare I gotta say I'm into that tranny London honey. I like her skincare line. I like Carolyn hyron's very into Victoria Beckham She's great.
I have to say lately though. Here's who's really got my fucking goose right now in the skincare and it's not Hashtag paid summer Fridays. That's what I mean summer Fridays that jet lag mask and their CC serum and their shade drops Mineral sunscreen that shit is so non chalky and just I met those girls a few weeks ago the founders and it was also really funny sidebar I hope they don't listen to this part We're doing this like Sephora conference and we sleep there the founders and their brand is called summer Fridays And really can't we just love that no one knows that we're the founder It's like we just want the brand to be bigger than us We just love it when people don't even brands after themselves because it could just be like so much bigger than yourself It's like not about us We're only panel and there's five hundred Sephora people and then they're like and Jonathan with JV and hair What is yours? Or are these like sitting order like could I have been sitting on the other TV I was like this is a doctor question to follow I took it on the fucking chain Okay, but that goes to show how much I fucking like that like still under the products Yeah, the jet lag mask is everything listen that was the last thing I was gonna bring up one of two things I'll jump to the last thing which is Kristen is obsessed with JV on hair So we have a ton of it stop saying that shit Is that dry shampoo but a clay We're fucking fight about trans rights, okay, it's fine She'll expect that There was a specific product she was talking about She was with the air-dried cream Well, I would love for you to listen sold out for fucking three months that means you so happy that you use your That's really one of my most proudest formulas.
I think it's just amazing But I also have to say our pretty much gov. Well, it's super next level. I'm a hairdresser And I'm a bougie bitch. I like really luxurious things that aren't that much money But I also like things that do cost a lot of money, but here so we gotta keep buying all the time So I can create something like curious like not eight million dollars for anything But even forgetting that our new nurture mask summer Queenies fall queens when there's like seasonal change like our hair Just like shit It's a mask is everything if you have like finer hair or like here the arm is scared of a mask You're just gonna use like a grape and sort of like her mid-links and keep it off your scalp We're just put the leftovers on your scalp if you have thicker hair like really need some hydration Just gonna use a little more, you know, I love it for fine hair people You should have pointed this would have been a time Eastern Western That's true, that's true Although we have a friend who's a hair child and he said something interesting about my hair He said you have a lot of it.
It's fine individually not fine, but not thick Like you have a horse Yes, I'm walking around the guy who's thick hair and he's like The chan is in good You just have a lot of it I feel like you have very dense hair yeah a lot of hair per square inch. Yes, but I do think she's fine individually Yeah, yeah There's so much hair per square inch Whereas I have not that many hairs and they're kind of medium to fine Okay, my edges are fine, but then like some in the back where like I don't care about it It's thicker, but your shit's so fucking dark lovely thick and full Thank you I think that people get confused between density and individual Strand size I mean exactly so we might be doing the wrong thing You guys don't want to talk about a hair per square inch But like yeah, it's different, yeah, it's different, yeah, interest The gauge Yeah, I have to look at the individual strand Yeah, and I intend to under a microscope Less tiny tiny Even tinier I watched the Letterman segment Ah To watch how wonderfully you were during that whole thing in front of a very intimidating guy that I would imagine I don't know what he holds in your mind, but for me just comedically he's on the monitor You know so I just want to applaud that Lovely that whole thing was and how I think you and I got the same thing out of him Which is a very playful side which was just really funny Got me on my toes darling Yeah, yeah, yeah I've never had someone try to bite my fingers He was like he really fell on my toes Great job, and then this occurred to me while we were talking that I have long said Monica's heard me say this and people don't agree with this But I have a hunch you and I are the same on this Which is you can say anything about me if you end it with and I'd love to fuck them So that's a so arrogant and he's selfish and he's cheap and I totally love to fuck him It's a big winch I don't really care what proceeds if you end it with and I totally want to fuck him then I'm golden with that I went to do that anyway no matter what What you really though? Yeah, I talk to my comedy there like a secret shame based crush on Mitt Romney I don't know what I mean No, I've wanted him to reel me since the 2002 Salt Lake City He's very, you know, even to beaver Ward Cleaver No, it's the shoulder pads Actually, I'm a journalist I'm a journalist I'm a journalist I'm a journalist I'm a journalist He was like actually I used to deal with that same affliction But his office just posted a picture of him boxing and it will take care of it You won't be feeling anymore And then I went and looked and I was like I got fucking Romney fever higher than ever before I have like rose-colored glasses on for him because he preserved Michelle Quand's ability to secure her second Olympic medal Like come and meet You know what I'm saying like breed me Breathe me right now All 100,000 more in babies Like I have all the more I'll fucking have your baby I'm like I'm like a Saturday Saint I know that you guys like have everything Breathe I'm like I'm gonna tell you this When they chase him down in the instruction I was like take holly Take holly take Cruz Don't take Mitty He's the only that Mitty And I got canceled for Twitter on that for saying that shit too Sure No Mitty does that's probably what Twitter with you is you can't talk fast enough on Twitter No, I don't have enough characters I don't even on there anyway because I don't support him The final thing I want to say Everyone should be listening to getting curious Curious now Pretty curious Ask JVN which I just found out about But only after you listen to every current episode of fucking armchair experts Slowly Slowly what has happened post our rough patch is I do want to own one thing that I want to apologize for Oh my god This is embarrassing that it took this for me to realize this But I remember at some point when I was in my mid 20s Saying Well I don't know why black folks are so mad when someone's off-handed in music I loved Ice Cube and he was very against whitey And I still enjoyed it For some period of time I was acting like those two things were comparable that they were the same And later I realized Oh of course it's not scary to me to hear Ice Cube hates white people Or did in 1994 Because Ice Cube's likely not gonna be the judge I face He's not gonna be the cop that pulls me over He's not gonna be the employer that I seek a job from I'm embarrassed to say that took me a while to recognize Oh yeah it's completely different if he voices that versus I do or someone else Because I have the power We have the power So I just let in the notion that when you and I are talking It's different We have different opinions But also I have the power And it's very fucking scary to look at the people that have the power And I have this opinion and that's gonna be a lot scarier to you than your opinion that differs from mine And I just want to acknowledge that I think that was really kind but also my therapist says what she says it relationships grow through disruption I agree with that That's our whole life That's our whole life We probably are gonna say there now We're gonna say that my husband's here your wife's here Like a little girl No it's gonna be great It's like we're gonna collapse only Because first came to the debate about like trans-exclusion sports and then came to fucking The ultimate touch that would be that I end up transitioning after all Oh my god And then I fight to compete and try to get it done And we go back to the beginning and I love it We go and we learn Oh I love you so much thanks for having me now Yeah I appreciate it so much I like you so much And I'm rooting for every single thing you do You two know that's the vein on that left bicep honey I don't even know how I was able to talk about drugs No I was like look at the vein on that fucking bicep You should put that on your social No it's all over his social It's just that I've been No for a camera roll dump When you really like give me like folding back When you're like a fresh pump I made sure I time my pump for you back Yeah being like a vein Like a close up like a bit I'm pretty The goal is like Oh it's really hot you guys The goal is like it looks accidental right there Right exactly like trying to make it It's really like it's really give me like an We'll have to take some pictures together and I'll hold you with these bicep Let's do it Stay tuned for the facts actually You can hear all the facts that were wrong Today I was trying to recall a name Clarence Thomas And I couldn't do it And then I wondered I think not drinking is bad for my brain No don't you think it's that You wouldn't assume it's the estrogen you're not? No it's the not drinking No not drinking's good for your brain That's very definitive That's what they say It's been Eight days?
This is day eight I do miss it Yeah But I really I really do have this weird Back and forth in my head About whether it's good for me To be off of it or not Meaning like medically speaking Are you actually Up in the eyes of Getting a big egg retrieval Oh oh oh No I feel very good to do this to the egg retrieval I got you're thinking more long term More long term What are the real benefits I'm feeling from this And it is murky Because now I'm on the estrogen So it is hard Clouded a little bit Uh huh Yeah you've thrown a lot of new variables at yourself I have I definitely wish to shave the side of your head See what happens Let's throw it Oh don't say that What if I get erratic Because of the estrogen and do it And I might do it You're gonna think me once you try it I have my hair What's great You'll still have No but you'll still have 80% of it I'm just talking about the side Oh god Okay now back to how you're feeling And when you're evaluating this Do you have a pros and cons list? Or just a cons list Well now I'm really trying to be positive about it About the whole journey But I'm really trying to be curious There we go About this experiment The sleep part is very interesting to me Because that is the piece That I said many months ago I feel like this is my consequence For drinking That you can't sleep well That my sleep is fucked up Okay And so when I'm evaluating Whether this is bad for me or not What are the consequences I have to be honest with myself and say I think sleep is A little erratic And But then being off of it Your sleep hasn't changed I would argue it's way too early I think your body's really adjusting still You know it's like finding homeostasis I mean look at I mean when I quit Opie at the time It was a fucking month Sure there was like The two weeks that were insufferable Right It wasn't until a month that I think my body Completely responded And not that you're drunk or anything But you do drink almost every night Yeah It's like a Your body has adjusted to that Biochemically for sure Yeah it could be that And also there's all these little factors Like yesterday I did computer work Uh huh Normally I would have mine with computer work And this was 3.30 Normally I would definitely have had a class But I didn't but I wanted something So I had coffee Okay Yeah And then This is what I did when I got sober I started banging that coffee Like now I'm going to go to Starbucks When I'm normally drinking at a big fucking 30 Owns coffee Because I wanted some Yes I want to be able to shift my feelings Something to mark the day Yes for sure So I had coffee That probably doesn't help the sleep Evaluation Well I didn't think about it But I didn't think it was going to be a problem Because I was working till late And it was good I needed that to To stay alert And I was tired at the end of work So I was like Oh this was perfect Then I got into bed And then I didn't I couldn't sleep till 1.30 Yeah yeah Caffeine But I drink caffeine normally But is it because of the balance? Because you didn't have a depressant Yes Yes Absolutely Okay Yeah Well that's Now you're in my situation Like the whole system gets way more sensitive Yeah Or it's like now Well I wasn't at all Sensant caffeine before Right Because I drank And I stupefied myself to go to sleep You had coffee though I liked coffee I still had to go to much other tea instead That's true I could try that Yeah And you've just probably got a set of time Where you don't drink a beyond that No but that's the time I know It's the time I want it Yeah But you're feeling that enormous urge right now Because it's so habitual But you will stop feeling that urge Like I don't feel the urge when the breadbasket Comes to eat bread anymore Because it's been a year and a half And I don't even think about the breadbasket now Yeah Well I also thought immediately I would be in such a better mood And then I really wasn't At all Even before the estrogen I was in sort of a bummer of a mood Yeah So Can you feel the estrogen at all? I can't I don't know what to putt I don't know I really don't It really is I don't feel crazy on it though Which is good Great And you haven't you been crying on control Or anything?
I've had once That wasn't uncontrollable And I've been on that for three days This will be my fourth day on it I think my skin might be responding well to it Yeah Well Liz and I both commented Yeah I think estrogen is actually good for your skin Testosterone Not so much Pimples Zits Back And progesterone And butany Oh yeah Ask me Butany Yeah yeah yeah Do you ever when you lay down at night Do you ever just touch your butt To see what's going on? Of course Yeah And then Butchees or butts Cheeses Cheeses Chees Just to know Because you don't ever see Somebody get out of your butts in the eyes Yeah Well I don't know I don't know Sometimes I feel A little tiny Like a tiny pimple Or like a little scab Yeah A little dry But yeah I get really fixated on it Uh-huh Because I can't see it And I don't I have Probably inflated And you're lying to about 800% And then I probably do make it worse Because I'm like Picking at it Yeah Yeah So that's been going on Yeah That's one of the I know it's always a balance beam Of having a partner or not Right That is an area where You know You have your partner look at this thing on your ass Oh Oh Oh is it Oh it's nothing Oh I was I was going to say the opposite Well it's those moments I'm really grateful I'm by myself No that's their job Your partner's job is to like Either pop it if it needs popping Or telling you now This thing's not ready Or this is nothing Don't move on No And then if you trust them Then you can I don't want them to see Okay And I don't want them to see me touching my butt So I like being alone for that Anyway yeah So I didn't sleep that well And I haven't been sleeping that well Could be some coffee issues But also maybe I am sleeping well During the actual sleep Right And I don't know Cause that's really coming I've heard with people who They pass right out And they're like oh I saw Eight hours and then they look at If they're wearing you know Any one of these monitoring devices They find out their sleep actually sucked Yes So maybe I'm sleeping well But in the morning I am tired every morning Really tired That's not a dream result Maybe I'm just waking up in the middle of a weird cycle Yeah So that's a lot to balance It's a lot In the meantime This too so change This too shall pass Yeah It's temporary Everybody level out Yeah and I mean I'm trying not to think too far ahead But I do wonder how long I'll do it Well what's your commitment? Two weeks? What was it?
My commitment is through the freezing Which will be all in all Cause I did five days before the estrogen Will be about seven days And the shots will be 10 to 12 Okay So be about a month Almost a month Yeah But I'm adding all these other ingredients in During the freezing That makes me wonder if I should Do some time after Not on it Right to evaluate Yeah You know you just It's a bummer but you gotta You just gotta go to yourself I'm on a ride I'm gonna be on a ride for like six weeks Yeah And it'll be over in six weeks And six weeks goes pretty fast Even though it sounds insurmountable Yeah it doesn't sound insurmountable I only question I guess I have some feelings of anxiety around Do I need to do this forever? Am I gonna do this What if I decide to do this forever? That feels scary And I just think I should have did that That's why that's the entire basis Of one day at a time I know Listen I have Sponsored dudes that they go I mean what am I not gonna have a beer With my son on his 21st birthday? Yeah And you go Maybe well Yeah Today though you're not gonna Right You can get through today Is your son turning 21 today?
That's literally how it works It's only today Have you noticed I mean Okay one major thing I have noticed I talked to my therapist about But I'm realizing a big component of alcohol Is it I like the way it plays with time Where it slows down time When I want it to slow down time And it speeds up time When I want it to speed up time When I'm editing It speeds up time When I'm with friends It slows down time Yeah And Pretty cool Yeah it's really cool I love that Yeah And I have noticed Even though I haven't been that long I feel done earlier I feel like done with the evening In a social engagement Oh when you're sober Yeah Right so we all had dinner the other night We were just like This is good Let's wrap this up No no no no It's not that extreme Right it's just It's just I can spend five hours Yes And it goes so fast And I want more Yes If I'm drinking Yes yes yes But again this is where we get back to me And the only thing my favorite part of having gotten sober Is that I learned how to be 12 again Yes So it's just like You're right It's not going to be fun to hang out at that place For five hours But you find the other things And for me they feel more substantive That I have these little hobbies And things I do at this time And then that replaces it Yeah You know That makes sense And then in retrospect I'm like well I'm happier that I spent all that energy Getting myself to the motorcycle tracker Going out with friends to do this event thing You know like Because to me All the five hour nights hanging in the same place They're almost all the same night Yeah but they're all fun They're all fun But it's just like for me It's like I can't distinguish one from the other It's kind of like Someone told me they liked it That I said this too I had totally forgotten I even said it to them But I saw them It was a woman who I had seen 11 years ago Chris was pregnant And I was saying What you tell yourself Is I'm going to miss the novelty Of meeting new people And having sex with them And having the experience with them And that that's a lot to give up Because that's really fun But in fact I've done that I did it a bunch of times It's actually not new There's a new person involved But it's the same pattern What I've never done before Is have a kid That's novel And then the kid changes so much every day That they make it inevitable Endlessly novel But it feels like you're giving up novelty But it's how you get novelty That's very interesting I do think me and you are different though And that I'm not looking for novelty I'm looking for consistency I'm looking for the opposite thing And I do know what I'm going to get When I have two glasses of wine Like these people in this environment But I also have that Because you've told me I've been addicted to drugs That didn't make me feel better But I knew how I was going to feel That's the appeal Because I don't really care if it's better or worse It's just I know what it'll be And that's very comforting Because I have anxiety about the future And to know exactly how I'm going to feel Is comforting Whether it's worse or better Yeah and I mean For me normally in that time It's better Or it's not better or worse It's just fun Yeah, yes So that's like If I had a positive thing I'm entering and I know it's going to be a positive thing Yes Yeah, because even when I'm with my favorite people Like the girls did That was the first night That was night one We can't even have an idea We're going to throw out that data Well, it was still great But I did realize I looked at the clock Yeah, let's get these gals out of here That was fun I did not want them to believe I did not But I did think Oh, it's going to be 930 And it was like 730 Yeah Look, this isn't your case But this is the case of many people Who drink a ton Which is What you find out sober actually Is that That group of people is not very fun Oh, they're only fun If you're drunk with them And they're drunk And that's its own weird Realizations Like, oh, hmm Yeah, I thought they were a little more fun Yeah, that's not what I do And then what you've got to do is You've got to then actually go find the people That are really fun Right Whatever that means to you I don't know Yeah, that's not my case No Anyway, so that's sort of an update on that I have another update Oh, what is it? My PR teacher reached back out after our episode Oh, really? Yeah And she confirmed it was her Who gave me the B Oh, she did Great, you asked her And she said I didn't ask, but she Oh, because she had heard Okay And so Did she remember it differently though That it wasn't 89.5% That would be my guess No, I mean, it's pretty funny I love the shout out on the most recent episode And then she has bullets According to Google Scholar Our article has been cited 617 times by scholars In their published work That's actually huge Most research never breaks into the double digits To be honest Well, so That's pretty exciting You're an academic all-star I guess And then she said The second bullet Your memory of my grading scale And you're running with it Is not wrong Oh, oh god Oh, that's comforting And then the last one She says I still do not round up But at least you know I'm consistent Well, I mean, you just said You like consistency I do Well, it would be really If later she gave somebody else A round up Yeah That would be really bad A round up That's a product A round up She's quite my age, right? I'm sure your professor was 12 years older Then you Which was probably younger than me, actually She might be younger I could have been one of your professors Oh my god Oh my god I stuck with schooling Yeah, because I was 20 And you would have been 32 You would have been like Covington Is that how old he was?
Who knows, right? I think he was 10 or so We just had an episode We talked to teachers And we all admitted that All teachers in our mind Were either 50 or 75 They were just about to retire Or they were 50 And in reality they were 28 They were all 28 And some of them were 50 He was young I think he might have been 28 Or 30 I mean, he was young enough That's why it was hot Yeah, but he was like, I'm old as fuck I do, but he was old You like the dad, the black dad Of the young black boy That you weren't mean to That age Yeah, twice plus a year No, probably That was five Yeah, I guess maybe Yeah, 20 years That was not that crazy I don't know how old the dad was But it was hot That earned that Massachia It's funny that the details You remember about someone's story Because when you hear that You like someone with a mustache The headline for me is like Monica likes dudes with mustaches Right, I know But I think that's counterintuitive I think I'm wrong though Maybe he's just so masculine You've painted a mustache on him I actually know he didn't have a mustache But I know why this is confusing I think I've said this out loud I'm a little worried I have it I think I have About my dad That your dad had a mustache? Well my dad has a mustache on Yeah, and he shaved it He shaved it and then when he shaved it He kind of looked like that dad Oh and that was disturbing Yeah, I didn't know how to handle that Because that dad was hot That's right And your dad is your dad Yeah, yeah Yeah Right Right Orca confusing place Or really is Cause it's time to get curve balls God So, okay So this is for Jonathan Okay, right This is for Jonathan And he is an encyclopedia He really does Oh, that Olympic stuff was insane Oh my God, he knows so much It's crazy how much he knew about the gymnastics Yeah, he has a very encyclopedic mind Yes So I think it's worth mentioning For whatever reason We hung for quite a while after the episode And it was very, very lovely And joyful And fun Yeah, and what we have mentioned On the intro I guess I'll reiterate Which is I personally think it's important To put out conversations where people Aren't necessarily on the same page Yeah, and that's real life And so I think it's important to hear It's not performative That's not really what we're trying to do And I really liked that it ended up okay Yeah, what I care more about In my position is that We live in a space where we can It doesn't always go well The expectation that it's going to go well Or that you're going to be Stoked by somebody's opinion Like he was broken hearted by my opinion I recognize that That's a bummer Yeah But I do care more about the notion that Despite all that we still have to talk about Everything It can't be like I can't just air that opinion When he's not around That doesn't feel right either I fully agree Like how do we meet in the middle Anywhere on anything If we don't do this So, okay So Jonathan's husband Mark was here Yes And Mark has red hair Yes And Mark said that in England They call him Duracell It's a pejorative Because of the top of the battery is red But really it's gold Yes But is it red over there? Oh I thought that's what you're about to hit me with Is that in England Duracells or red But that can't be either Because Duracell sponsors Williams the race team And they have a big Duracell battery On the back Behind their head Because it's perfectly battery shaped It's a great little placement And it's gold Yeah, all I'm seeing is gold Pops Okay, interesting They call it Blonde People Duracell I should be referred to Well, young me should be referred to Now I should be referred to as whatever silver As fuck, Grey as hell No, you're not that grey Sides are really grey Okay, the reason Maybe English people are conflating red with the gold Because it, like look at this picture Like you could see it as red There's a million other items That would be Mortable whole side Yeah, yeah To compare a red head to A carrot A carrot?
No, a carrot is orange Okay, well some red hair Actually, most red hair is orange A little bit orange, yeah It's never red like a fire engine Although That'd be cool Fucking great Yeah, do you ever liked any redheads? Like how did any crushes on any redheads? Maybe not a crush on jazz But I don't know I had a redhead girlfriend He's the only redhead boy that I know Prince Harry? Oh, Prince Harry?

My mom should have tons of hope That she's gonna marry a 50-year-old Oh, I mean it could happen That's gonna happen She's a, she's a catch Yeah, she is Um, okay, let's see We said late August is the biggest time of birthdays I stand by that Without ever having looked up any data on it Well, you're wrong Okay, what's the hottest month? September Close Yeah, well yeah It's still Yeah, it's still nine months from Christmas I guess it's the important We're leading up to Christmas We did, but we sent August So I have to chat Yeah, you're right, you're right Okay, so September nine I don't know barely anybody that has a September birthday Amy, Jess Okay Seven, Elizabeth I know But that's your own clouding Got a Zandaya, Samahayak I'm Tristan Zay There's all September Yidor Salba, yeah Okay, Martin Freeman It's August Um, Beyonce September 4th Or Cusp She's a Cusperer She's a Virgo, but she's a September I'm a special Virgo Why's that? Because I'm in August Virgo There are only a couple Okay, when's the start? It starts on the 23rd And I'm the 24th Or some people say in 22nd But then there's seven, so there's 31 days in August So there's eight days that you can be Yeah, that's not that many I can't even say three, though, that's my got computers Oh, oh My good birthday is not the 28th No, no, you're right Okay, you're right We're back Yeah, all right The 22nd or 3rd is when it starts Okay So there's like, yeah, like seven, eight days or whatever But still, still the cooler version Okay, great Okay, September 9th is first Then September 19th Then September 12th This is so weird What you've imagined it patterned out To be like Neighboring days Right, but they have Like, if you say the number one's the ninth My guess is that the eighth is number two And 10th is number three Or some version of that Because people were one day earlier later Yeah, that's where the mass Peak is You would think it would kind of graph out It is kind of crazy It's September 9th September 19th September 12th September 17th September 10th The sixth is July 7th The sixth time That's an outlier It is That's a left turn Because then seventh is September 20th September 15th September 16th September 18th Are the pop 10s They're all September And then Skatey-ombos That's the aunt that My favorite birthday angel is the second Because of it Well, and the 18th Well, oopsie Oh shit, you gotta raise that My first favorite birthday is the 18th of July And second is July second Sure, sure I just never had a thing in common with Kristen Like I do with Aaron, which is J2C J2C People don't remember J2C Well, what's your favorite birthday in August?
January 2nd Capricorn In July 2nd Cancer J2C Very exclusive club It is There's no fucking way I'm answering that question Because I have my mom, my sister, you My grandma, YOLA's There's just no way I will not walk into that lion's den That hurts One's your favorite birthday in August, Rob? That's tough too Because my dad's is 24th, that's Thank you My God You didn't feel obligatory That way you really want To bully someone into picking your birthday You have so many friends with birthdays in September Just so you know I do You get mex Greenfield Okay Okay Um There's more Oh my gosh Pink I'm not fr- I mean I'd love to be friends with Pink But I'm not I'm friends with Carrie I would say Why don't I do friends of the pod? Emmy Rossum Okay, friend of the pod Lily Reinhart Friend of the pod Prince Harry Nick Jonas Wow Fuck We're hitting hard in September Jimmy Fallon Nicole Ritchie Bill Murray Not Nicole Ritchie It won't work well Bill Murray though You won't be sure I know her I know her I do know her I do know her I don't know her I don't know Bill Murray though I think we're done with that Now it's like Taylor's commencement speech Okay Now one thing I do want to clarify It is estimated that this is a dot work Okay It is estimated that up to 1.7% of the population Has an intersex trait And that approximately 0.5% of people have clinically identifiable Sexual or reproductive variations Cline felters which you brought up Is 0.1 to 0.25% of boys and men It says only 25 to 50% of patients with Cline felters syndrome are diagnosed during their lifetimes Right so that was a No just they would have had it genetically And never even known But how do we know They'd have to have done it Posthumously Yeah how do they know They must be in an odd My guess would be in a blood autopsy or something It's like Instagram's tracking Could be they know everything It was the gram Or they also could have deduced it By doing some section of genetic testing Where they got this number But then they look at what medical records Reflect that they're not identified in the Delivery Room is that Those two numbers could be off by 75% Right? Mitt Romney came up at the end because John the top form Yeah Yeah He was retiring right?
Yeah that's what I was going to say It was a sim Because a couple days after that Yeah he announced that he will not run For reelection to the Senate And called for a quote New generation of leaders As he criticized both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump Well he and I are on the same page I will ask this Hopefully it doesn't come across as political But many Democrats have publicly said They miss certain Republicans That they would be like happy with a Mitt Romney right? After Trump a lot of people said that I wonder if they feel that way at all On the right about any of our presidents Like are they going Well we kill for a Bill Clinton at this point Like do they think we have changed so much Because we are accusing them of changing quite a bit From my perspective it seems like the party changed a lot I wonder from their perspective Probably with all the different things That we're talking about in this episode Well I think they would say that If someone very far left got elected I don't think we've had anyone yet And maybe never who knows Who they would say that about If like AOC was the president They might say that Or if Bernie Sanders had one Because he kind of socialist Yes if Bernie had one they might have said like Oh we would Is that capitalist George Clinton Or yeah George Trump I'm not Policing or a P-Funk I don't think we have one of those Yeah they probably feel that way about some of the senators There's a bunch of people in the Senate and Congress I'm sure They're much further left than that But they don't wish Like they just wish it was a Republican Right well And I think we're all playing the same game Which is like well if it were Republican we'd be delighted That it would be right Exactly And they might be saying well if it's got to be a Democrat I'd prefer it's Ted Kennedy over AOC Yeah I did want to do just because I personally just got curious At how many people go to the Olympics General of the entire world population Like attend the Olympics No athletes Oh how many athletes are in that opening ceremony Yeah yeah They feel like a whole arena right The percentage of people in the world How many are Olympic athletes at that time Okay all right so we get the calculator ready Yep Okay Oh you don't have to actually because it says it It says it says it Okay I'm rather useless I read This is wild Yeah I read that your testosterone levels have positive effects On your math ability Isn't that bizarre? Are you serious? Yeah that was part of the book Oh wow Yeah But is that why they say men are better at math?
Well great So what they did they were better at math statistically right But then someone had the good site To compare different countries The number was something like Of perfect scores on math section of SATs That only 1 in 11 were women Okay So they're like well what's going on? Then they're looking in the brain for what area is responsible Is that different structure Leaving with women Anyways someone else did a cross-cultural examination of this And what they found is that In countries where gender equality exists Like they say that Scandinavia That actually they're there That they have total gender equality And there the numbers are dead equal But what's sad for boys is Even though it's dead equal The reading portion is still dramatically better from girls But their testosterone in Scandinavia wouldn't be higher No but that study is looking at men And their testosterone levels And their math aptitude Just looking at math Oh oh That something about testosterone Increases the ability to do math Which is fascinating Huh Yeah So it's just within the West This right The testosterone thing? Yeah I don't know Okay So the percentage in 2012 The Summer Olympics There were 10,960 athletes At the time the Earth's population was 7 billion and some other numbers So 11,000 divided by 7 billion Pretty much Okay 1,000,000,000,000,1,4 Kind of close What is it? 0,000,000,000,1,5 1,6 I will round up because I'm not Dr.
Sweetser But if you round up then I'm further away from the guess So could you keep it just a rounded number? Okay, 0,0,0,0,0 My good mother My two factors of 10 though I missed two zeros Or 1 1 millionth of 1% 1 1 1 millionth of 1% Pretty hard to be one Right Anywho, that's all Okay, love you Love you
