Jonathan Winters liked - Gay Chesterfields Rude Phyllis Diller Freddy Cannon Blooper
from spookylorre
Over 50 years ago, Jonathan Winters sent some friends a self-pressed album (just code-credited to JW). It included some of his own bits, but also some "underground" tapes he liked. He got a kick out of a manly cigarette commercial being turned upside down with a gay slant. It's possible some gays would blast this thing at a parade for a "we're here and we're queer" shock laugh. A lot of comedy is based purely on "surprise." This IS a surprise. Who got together to record it and where Jonny got it, nobody knows. He found Phyllis Diller cackling over a joke she couldn't dare use on TV. What DO you call somebody who shovels cement?? AND lastly, Freddy Cannon has a blooper moment during a promo recording. Jon thought his pals would be amused. Now it's here for historical purposes. Jonny dug far out and edgy audio 50 years ago, and some of it still capable of raising eyebrows today!
