Jordyn Carmen

In this episode, I chat with Dr. Jordyn Carmen, who is an acclaimed composer, theorist, educator, and multi-instrumentalist based in New York City. With degrees from NYU and The Juilliard School, where she now serves on the faculty, Dr. Carmen has had her compositions performed by ensembles such as the Juilliard Orchestra, AXIOM Ensemble, and the Cassatt String Quartet. She has received prestigious awards, including the Robert Crafter Igor Stravinsky Grant and the Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. As an educator, Dr. Carmen teaches Music Theory and Ear Training at Juilliard and has worked with students of all ages, blending her passion for composition and analysis with a deep commitment to mentorship. Beyond her academic and compositional work, she is an accomplished bassoonist and woodwind doubler, performing regularly in New York’s vibrant arts scene.
