Joseph Paul Franklin knew nothing but abuse from an early age, as his father was an abusive alcoholic and his mother barely fed him and rarely cared about him and his siblings. As a high schooler, he sought acceptance, so he read up on evangelical Christianity, then this soon evolved into memberships in the local Nazi and KKK chapters. The height of his value shift was when he read Mein Kampf, as this prejudiced text influenced him to start a race war, ensuring that the whites were on top. But instead of just talking about it like most did, he decided to take action.
