Josephine Morake

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

Josephine Morake was 18 years old when she joined a skills development initiative in her community, after which she enrolled in a local entrepreneurship programme. That was four years ago. She now owns a domestic worker recruitment agency, employing six full-time staff over and above the many women she has found jobs for. Whilst fighting for her own future, she is empowering others, too: after receiving another sizeable enterprise development grant, Josephine decided to pay it forward by helping fund three other start-ups. She was able to achieve some of this with the support from Afrika Tikkun an organisation that provides a range of assistance to victims of fire, disease and hunger, along with adult skills training, literacy but the organisation has evolved to provide a holistic development model in disadvantaged communities, with a focus on Early Childhood Development, Child and Youth Development, and Career Development.
