Joshua part 4
from Mossvale Community Church · host Mossvale Community Church
Teaching from Mossvale Men's Meeting. Joshua 4 teaches us the importance of remembering what God has done. After Israel crossed the Jordan River on dry ground, God commanded them to take twelve large stones—one for each tribe—and build a memorial so that future generations would ask, “What do these stones mean?” The memorial was a reminder to Israel, a teaching tool for their children, and a testimony to the nations that the hand of the Lord is powerful. The timing of their crossing also connected back to the Passover, reminding them that the God who began their redemption in Egypt was faithful to complete His promise. The chapter warns us that we are prone to forget God’s faithfulness, especially when life becomes comfortable, so we need reminders of His grace. For Christians, baptism and the Lord’s Supper are God-given reminders, particularly Jesus’ command, “Do this in remembrance of me.” Ultimately, the greatest memorial is Jesus Christ Himself—the One who was “cut off” for our sins and through His death and resurrection accomplished God’s greatest act of saving grace. Joshua 4 calls us to remember, repent, rejoice, and continue trusting in the faithfulness of God.
