Journal Club Review: TOGETHER-PsA Trial
from RhAPPcast
In this RhAPP journal club video module, Bharati Bhardwaja, PharmD, BCPS, LSSBB, reviews the Phase 3 TOGETHER-PsA clinical trial and its implications for adults with active psoriatic arthritis who are overweight or have obesity. This study is the first randomized trial to evaluate whether adding the dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist tirzepatide to ixekizumab can improve both rheumatologic and metabolic outcomes. This episode reviews how the TOGETHER-PsA trial was conducted, who participated, and the main findings after 36 weeks. It explains how combining ixekizumab with tirzepatide helped more patients achieve meaningful improvement in psoriatic arthritis symptoms while also losing weight, compared with ixekizumab alone. The video also examines improvements in skin symptoms and metabolic health, as well as the most common side effects and overall safety findings. Designed for rheumatology advanced practice providers, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and clinicians caring for patients with psoriatic arthritis, this journal club highlights the potential benefits of addressing both immune-mediated inflammation and metabolic factors that may contribute to disease activity.
