Know the person 2. See the Birth of Jesus through the eyes of Jacob Let’s know Jacob Son of Isaac and Rebekah Younger twin of Esau Purchased the rights of the firstborn from Esau for the price of meals (Gen 25:27-34) Saw dreams - Including the one having a ladder at Bethel, a mediator between heaven and earth – Jesus (John 1:51) Had 12 sons, became the heads of the 12 tribes and a daughter Name changed to Israel Genesis 32:28 Then the man said, “You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed.” God chose Jacob, the younger son over Esau, the elder one to be blessed. He was a fighter as well. Before his death, he went to meet Joseph in Egypt and stayed there till his death. God kept his promise to Abraham and again reminded Jacob, the grandson of Abraham about His promise for a nation. Through his 12 sons that the promise of God for a nation was fulfilled. The people are called by his name, Israel. Jacob prefigures Jesus in the manner that Jesus too had 12 disciples who said to be seated Matthew 19:27-28 Then Peter said in reply, “Look, we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?”  Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man is seated on the throne of his glory, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Israel represents the chosen people of God. Jesus came to create a new Israel, who would live according to the will of the Father. The church is the new Israel who is also the bride of Jesus, the bridegroom. Jacob reminds us of the need to be clever to get the promise of God, God’s blessings.
