Prophets were known to use the isolation of the desert places to grow spiritually over time and to focus their message on God. By living apart from the culture in preparing for ministry, John was able to speak with great passion and clarity for the people of that day. - After 400 years a prophet was sent - Functions as the bridge between the Old Testament and the New - Friend of the bridegroom John 3:29-30 He who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. For this reason my joy has been fulfilled.” - humble John 3:30 “He must increase, but I must decrease.” - The unworthy servant John 1:26- 27 John answered them, “I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not know, the one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandal.”
