In this episode, I chat with Professor Joy H. Calico. Professor Calico is a professor of musicology and chair of the Department of Musicology at UCLA, whose research explores Cold War cultural politics, modern opera, and the music of Arnold Schoenberg. She is the author of Brecht at the Opera and Arnold Schoenberg’s A Survivor from Warsaw in Postwar Europe, and her upcoming projects include a study of twentieth- and twenty-first-century opera and a co-edited volume on childhood in opera. Her work has been supported by leading research institutions, and she plays an active role in international musicological collaborations such as the Black Opera Research Network.
