Bible Reading: Philippians 1:12-20Preacher: Pastor Jonathan HoffmanDate: 11th January 2026Big Question - What is it in the Christian faith that excites you?Big Idea - When Jesus is our hope we'll never be put to shame and the joy never runs out.SERIES OVERVIEWThis year our spiritual focus is "Hope" and we are beginning 2026 with a series through Paul's letter to the believers in Philippi.  Written while the apostle was imprisoned in Rome, this letter exhorts us to joy by framing the life and trials of believers in terms of our eternal hope in Jesus.Philippians 1:12-20 gives Paul's occasion for writing.  He is concerned that the believers "know" that his imprisonment has served to advance the gospel, rather than hinder it.  This prompts the apostle to delight in the impact his suffering has had upon the boldness of other Christians who have now been swayed to speak about Jesus. The section ends with Paul's self reflection of his own preaching in light of other preachers, concluding that in the end all that matters to him is that Christ be exalted in his own body - whether by life or death.
