JT: Saying it out loud

from Adam · host Adam Webber

Today JT called in to share his story of fear and what he learned by opening up, digging in and talking with his family that he was ready to change his relationship with alcohol. The thing that is so difficult about life is that we all grow up forming habits and adopting many of the customs that our parents and culture teaches us about “normal behavior”. Many times the things we use in our daily lives (weather it is alcohol, drugs, social media or any other distraction) is actually unhealthy and we end up using to cover up things that we don’t want to face. JT had developed an unhealthy relationship with alcohol and it took him a long time to admit to himself that he needed to change. He started having anxiety attacks and feeling shame about some of his life choices. He finally admitted to himself and his family that he was going to change. Just by claiming out loud that he was ready to change and get help he began the journey of holding himself accountable and taking the steps to improve his life. JT talks about how it is hard but if you want to live the best life possible for yourself it is necessary. We spoke about the importance of being compassionate to yourself, mindfulness, triggers and calming ourselves down and the importance of getting help even when its hard to do. JT has a podcast called The Consequence of Habit that can be found here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1052338
