Judge blocks Trump’s latest attempt to curb birthright citizenship

from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand

A federal judge has blocked President Donald Trump's latest attempt to curb birthright citizenship in the U.S. The Maryland judge granted a preliminary injunction, stopping the executive order until a class action lawsuit by immigrant families and advocacy groups is resolved. The right to citizenship if you're born here is guaranteed under the 14th Amendment. But Trump's order aims to restrict citizenship for children born to certain foreign nationals. The judge says the Supreme Court already ruled on the issue in June, finding that children in the class action case are citizens at birth. So, she argues Trump's new executive order, issued last month, violated the high court's ruling. (Photo by Alex Wong/Getty Images)
