Jukebox: Francepants (Mutemath and Ginger’s Revenge)

Barry, Abigail, and guest Frances Walton discuss Mutemath by Mutemath and sample Original and Cranberry Herb from Ginger’s Revenge in Asheville, North Carolina. Frances and Barry met as Patreon subscribers of Stand Up! with Pete Dominick, and Frances has appeared on Pete’s show numerous times as part of his special segment “The Hue.” She has also appeared on her brother’s podcast Phrankly Speaking, most recently joining him for a two-part series about Tom Cruise. Frances discovered Mutemath at a college concert where they opened for Switchfoot. She purchased the Teleprompt version of the album at the concert. We reviewed the Warner Bros. version. Abigail heard similarities between this album and Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto. Frances compared the vocals in Collapse to Joga by Björk. The “reverse back masked” music video for Typical reminded Frances of the creativity and artistry of OK Go’s music videos.
