In today's reading from Isaiah 54:4–17; 55:1–13; and 56:1–12, God offers comfort to a barren and weary people, promising a future of lasting compassion, security, and joy. Then comes one of the most gracious invitations in all of Scripture: "Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; seek the Lord while He may be found." God promises that His Word will not return empty, a promise that finds its fullest meaning in Jesus—the eternal Word made flesh, as John 1 reveals. In Christ, God's Word has come to us personally, bringing salvation, satisfaction, and the welcome of all who bind themselves to Him.
